I have the same issues when it comes to playing the game, this game hasn't excited me. When i get home i don't even care if i am going to play or not. i don't know what it is. My biggest problem is that the fun just isn't there, maybe i have to find it first. This game lacks excitement.

the new animations are superb but how long til we get used to them and its not so fresh anymore. Man i have to stop the negativity because i really do love the game but there is definately a spark missing. Maybe i just got too hyped pre release. The bugs that are in the game though are just soooo frustrating.

I gotta say i completely agree with you Chris when it comes to manager mode and because of some of the basic issues/bugs that are in it i just struggle to see myself playing it. Obviously you mentioned most of the bugs but another one that really frustrates me is how you seem to play friendlies against teams in your own league...i mean if they couldn't even get that right then why bother putting it into manager mode in the first place.

I'm really surprised though how EA can make the game so detailed in some aspects..like the ref even having an ear piece etc yet in manager mode they seem to fail when it comes to the basic things being realistic e.g. community shield being played at night. I know they've supposedly worked on manager mode but maybe its worth them getting the basic things sorted out first before trying to add more depth to it.

If only Football Manager & Fifa could just join together to create some kind of ultimate football manager mode..

For all the bugs in MM, something that happened this pre-season gone in real life (Premier league sides playing pre-season 'friendlies' against each other) is an odd thing to point out.

or do we both pick a team and then for example he picks arsenal, i pick man utd.. in a tournament. the draw come sout:

man utd v bury

arsenal v spurs

when man utd are playing, he plays as bury? when arsenal are playing i play as Spurs? then if i get knocked out, i then try to knock him out?

Yep, that's it. You have to try and get to the final and win while he tries for the same thing, trying to knock eachother out on the way.

Gives you lots of experience with different teams and also means that you get a lot of games you'd never usually play, where e.g. you have to play as a poor team and defend for your lives to try and get a counter-attack goal against a bigger and stronger team.

Really enjoyed the latest FSB podcast whereby Chris gives a very open and honest review of FIFA10.
For an advocate site that is obviously very Pro-FIFA & EA I thought Chris as very unbiased and honest with his findings and am also glad to hear that the bug of the CPU player literally running the ball into my keeper during one on ones is widespread and not just me!

I agreed with more or less everything in the review, and kinda think that you should burn that podcast to CD and drop a copy in the mail to Mr Rutter because, im pretty sure that alot of the things that Chris says he's sure will be patched, EA aren't even aware of!

There is so much mindless pre-teen slagging off that goes on at the official EA forums that i think lots of valid points about bugs and gameplay issues are lost in the mist.
Im full expecting a patch to sort minor Manager Mode bugs and the online play out, but id be very suprised if things like CPU one on ones, weather always being the same, transfers, form, contracts etc are even touched!
And a point i made on anothe forum is that the REfs consistency, decision making and also Playing of the supposed advantage rule need to be fixed ASAP.

Ive lost count of the times ive been literally assaulted and raped in the penalty box with no decision given but i simply make a shoulder jostle using momentum and im pulled up for it.

There's not a lot of news coming out of EA at the moment, other than "a patch is in the works and it should be out soon". So I don't think there's much point in a podcast as of now! I think it would be better to see what the patch fixes (or, God forbid, breaks) and then have a discussion about that.

I did meet someone from EA earlier this week but unfortunately most of the chat was about Aston Villa being great and Tranmere Rovers being utter rubbish...

Who am I?

Hi guys some of you might hv seen me on here while most others wont even know who i am... well i've been a fan of this site since a long time nearly two years now but have only started posting about 6 months ago and most of them have been on the FSB side of things... First up i didnt really know where to post this so i chose the podcast discussion threads on both sites.. solely because this is my opinion on football games in general and since FSB has already done a review of Fifia 10 and with the PES 2010 review round the corner i felt its the best place to share my thoughts... for those who dont care please look away its going to be a long post and for those who do i thank you with all my heart... WENB to begin with and then FSB have become a constant fixture in my life i wake up every morning to first check my RSS feed and then log into the forums.. I pretty much just play football and basketball games on my console (ps3) with the odd gta, mafia, WWE (with a bunch of friend.. its really good fun when u gang up against one of ur mates) etc. I do not think that i am a fanboy or a hardcore loyalist of any franchise..

Football and Me.

Growing up in India the first football game i ever bought was EA's France 98 (PC) which i loved to death i still have the copy somewhere and from then on i hv played every Fifa title till Fifa 10.. and its really incredible how far they have come... because india lagged behind europe and america (not the case anymore) in the console life cycle got my first console (PS1) in 1999 (i was about 11 at the time)... it was during my sting with the ps1 that i played one of the ISS games and i really loved it.. however these games werent available easily or at all even in my country... so it was only till about pes4 on the ps2 that i was able to get my hands on a Konami football game... What really struck me about the game was the number of small little details the tricks and feints the free kick system which i absolutely adore (so much better that fifa)... the signature animations (the Beckham free kick esp)... the sheer unpredictability of the game and the variaion in goals apart from the fact that the players actually looked like they were on earth and actually had some weight (unlike fifa)... i even enjoyed PES 2008 even though it was a poor game... 09 for me personally was a really bad year for footy games... i didnt like both pes 2009 (which i played at a friends place) and fifa 09 (which i bought as it was touted as the game to play.. it was really great at first but very soon it just got boring and repetitive...untill i discovered manual controls but that exited too just lasted for a month or so..)... So i was anxiously waiting for the next batch of games for the better part of last year... However the major snag was that i could only buy one footy game a year (on principle not due to lack of funds, etc).

On weighing the pros and cons and from my experience with the demos i have already purchased Fifa 10... however a lot has changed since the demo (which btw is my only way of testing games as we dont have game rentals in india) the long rangers have almost gone out the team tactics and stats for most teams are off (and this is the first time that it actually even makes a difference in a fifa game).. the AI is irritating most of the times... i hope they can come up with a few patches to rectify all these issues.. it does however offer a really good multiplayer experience. Despite this fifa is crying out for better editing option because i know that it is absolutely impossible the get the stats, face and tactics spot on with the kind of database they have.. so why not allow users to edit them also restricting the custom formations and tactics is quite an irritant as it limits you.. If at all there must be restriction why dont they instead of providing overall 28 slots for formations and 28 for tactics provide each team with say five slots for each... this would help us users make a better game.. esp if they see the kind of work some people are doing on at evo web and neo777 on the FSB forums.. also the AI must be sorted as soon as possible. Also why not include the gameface technology n the game for us to add face to other players as well...

The thing with PES is that i loved the demo it did feel like the old days... they surely are on the right track with the game... But my biggest gripe is that they players look (an i dont mean graphical.. its absolutely superb in that department) horrible and robotic when they run... i mean it shouldnt be really hard to get that right... running animations should be the basis of any sport really and considering they use mo-cap etc its really disappointing... another thing al be it a small one but it does make a difference to me that 3rd kits are completely missing from the game.. a game with the lack of licenses should really look into that and provide them for the licensed teams and allow us to create it for unlicensed teams... again not a very hard thing to do... Another thing is the weather effects.. Fifa has some really nice rain and snow effects something konami could look into in the future.. Also hopefully they've got the resposne times spot on in the final version.

In conclusion

Now heres the thing i dont play manager mode or master league .. i prefer playing exhibition matches or online or multiplayer with a few friends.. so if i want to play just a champion league fixture away at Fiorentina with my beloved Liverpool in the new white kit i cant really do that in both the games.. coz the champions league license is with KONAMI and the white kit is with EA... the player individuality is with KONAMI and the weather effects an freedom of control is with EA.. similarly the better kits, player models and faces are with KONAMI and the licenses are with EA.. Now i understand that both games have a very different philosophy both of which go down well with me... the problem i face is that both represent only one half of the 'Beautiful Game' this is something that has me split into two.. while its acceptable that no game is perfect what has me disappointed is that no one game can satiate my love and passion for football... and i have realised that debates on which game is better are completely superfluous or redundant and i believe that if football games are ur passion then both the games are a must... cheers and thanks for reading..

Great post Vin. You have some things in there that I really agree with.

Its a shame that Fifa hasn't put in the time to fix the AI (yet), and that PES has far better player models and graphics while Fifa has better animations and licenses.

Its also kind of amazing how long Konami has stuck with their running animation. That animation has never looked good, even on past generations of consoles it looked ridiculous.

These kind of things make me wish EA and Konami would just merge to develop a game with the best of both games. Will never happen but its kind of cool to think about. They could call is FIFA PRO

And by the way... the screenshot from PES's Rooney is at Medium settings. And it is still much more realistic than the FIFA's Rooney (and for a cover star looks horrible!)

Yeah, PES doesn't need FIFA's online modes, animations, commentary or stadium atmosphere.

Seriously how can you say that when the animations in FIFA are superb whereas this is one of the major disappointments still evident in Evo!!

If we could have the animations, licensing, online modes and trick stick from FIFA in Evo then it would be breath taking......but you could do that comparison vice versa hence why the initial post has a lot of merit in it.

I'll have both in my collection this year and unfortunately I'll have to wait another year to see if Evo can sort out the bloody animations!!!!!!!!

PES was really a huge part of my life previously as well.
But for now, the feeling is like an ex girlfriend and I am now engaged to FIFA. Ha.
But sometimes, we still look back to our ex and wish how things will improve and we really enjoyed the time back then.

This is the case for me now , still occasionally check back with PES updates , even tried the demo.
It is like even though your ex had grown prettier , you are happier with your wife to be as you know she got better substance and there a great future ahead.

well basically the point i was trying to make was that 1yr is too long a period for any of these games to keep me engrossed coz the bugs and the restrictions get to u eventually so thank god for both... i'll probably buy pes when it goes platinum.. so i can enjoy it for a few months before the release of next years games..
