PES 2010 Response Issues Feedback
Re: PES 2010 Response Issues Feedback
@ adam .. are you making sure that Konami is looking at this reponse issues and these forum feedback regarding this issue ? in demo there are lots of broken animations issues as well but those doesnt affect you as much as the response time does.. please ensure Konami sees this thread at least and do somehting about it ...

Yes it is , the demo was 70%-75% or so .. and it has repsonse time and animation issues and a few of the old "glitches" of past games. I accept that, but when Adam played and reviewed the Review Code 90% ? with some 15% to 20% more work done, Adam says it still has some Response Time and Animation issues. That is the worry for some, between 15% to 20% more work done and it still has some response time - animation issues. I don't know about programming games, is the last 10% used to fix gameplay-animation issues or the last bit of overall gloss?
I have played just about every football game out there , from my 1st Emily Hughes International Football on the ZX through Euroepan Club Football on the Mega Drive to Viva Football on PC to a host of others including early Fifa until PES3 appeared for the PC. I have watched and played a lot of football in my nearly 52 years, if Konami are going for a sim, then response times are out, anyone even including my daughter can hit a ball within the second she thinks about it, and footballer can do this too. The difference is in skill, Messi and your average workman like footballer can hit passes grounders lobs and have shots volleys included in a split second, the difference is Messi passes and shots will be more accurate and a higher % rate of success, but both can strike the ball within a split second.
They can do this even falling over, its one thing to have Slow gameplay which I argee with but to do this by slowing down the reaction times of players to an extent where it takes 2-3 hits of a button becuase they have been slowed down so the Set Up takes place and the strike be it pass or shot can be carried out, that is unreal. Any player in the world from Messi to Sunday League player can hit a ball within a split second even off balance, if the ball is within striking distance of the player.
If there skill levels are low, balanced or not, then that pass or shot will not be accurate but it the player can hit it within a split secong in control of it or not.
From what I have picked up , these slow reacting players in the game is basically down to animations. The only way I think Konami can have Walking - Slow - Fast Paced football with the same sort of passing and shooting reaction times is to have Manual Power Bar Passing. That way your player can hit the ball anywhere within striking distance and the passing - shooting direction -strength - pace will be down to the skill of your player and direction and power you put in.
As the reivew of the 90% ? code said , the reaction times and animation are better but there are still problens there , I take it that is why this Feedback post was started. To alert the fans that these issues are still there even if to a lesser extent. I won't put words into Adams mouth , its only my opinion but I think even though the animations and timings are better, it sounds like he thinks it could still be a problem and wanted to highlight it to the fans. Maybe in the hope that this topic and the fans reaction that Konami will try even harder to fix the remaining issues with the timings and animations.

Adam , Are you hoping that the final build of the game will be improved ? Or are you happy overall with the latest code? Cuz if you are , thats all I need to know , And if you are enjoying the latest code as much as I hope you are , then how much better is PES 2010 than Pes 2009 in your opinion m8 ?. This response time shit is really doing my head in now . I actually like the demo
and just want to know how optimistic you are about the final game. cheers m8.

You'll get my take on the demo in tomorrows podcast, like I've said the code I have is improved so its looking good from where I'm sitting.
And all the people wondering if I'm feeding this back, Konami staff check the boards on a daily basis, everyone knows we are officially attached to them. Any feedback given is seen directly by them, hence the post about this thread on front page.
Now, please back on topic.

Re: PES 2010 Response Issues Feedback
Hello !
Long time lurker , first post here..
What I'm about to write will not make you happy and I hate to brake it to you,
But PES 2010 , never ever plays in 1080p or 1080i resolution (on PS3 at least) , it only plays in 720p or 576p (when you connected your PS3 to TV through HDMI cables), so unticking other resolutions then 720p won't change anything!! If you don't believe me , make a test, uncheck 720p option in display settings and leave 1080p and 1080i checked and try to play the game (it will automatically downscale to 576p resolution
So the only thing that can make PES 2010 response issues go away is to play it in SD resolution , which I refuse to do since it (the game) looks worse then PS2 games on my Sony Bravia 40 inch W series TV .. anyone trying to tell you different , is just lying .. sorry ..
Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, I'm not a native English speaker..

Re: PES 2010 Response Issues Feedback
To me it feels like the players need to finish their animation before they can respond to your input, this year.
Previous years it felt more like they were able to abort their current animation and proceed immediately with the new one.
Either that, or maybe the massive demands for a slower/more realistic gameplay after last years game (which I enjoyed) made Konami unsure how to do this. And in the work of implementing slower gameplay they messed up the response times or maybe saw it as a necessary evil to achieve slower gameplay.
Could I be on to something, Adam?

Yup, I said the exact same thing earlier today mate. I'm surprised so few people on this board have picked up on this fact on the PS3.... its as if they're accepting a placebo trick or something. Its the same game no matter what folks, the only HD resolution there is, is 720p on the PS3. Fact.

Yeh, there were better abortions of animation sequences, but that led to 'clipping' and jerky movements (which people abused)..
now, as you say, "players need to finish their animation before they can respond to your input"
I guess Konami need to find a balance between these two extremes.. i.e. bettter animation morphing/dovetailing.
Anyway, yeh I played a few games (going from an upscaled 1080p image to a seemingly native 720p image) - and I too noticed improved responses and faster gamespeed (although still significantly slower than 09 - which is cool).
Leading to a better experience, this could be the PES for a while, but I still get soo frustrated with its shortcomings. playing even at 720p.
I still find the computer is able to do things that I simply can't do in this build, due to the still apparent problems. Like uber intricate dribbling..

Ah OK, but I do perceive some form of change - maybe I want to believe it so much lol.. but before I tried it I was very sceptical.. (howevver don't get me wrong, I still have issues with the game...
Anyway, my question is, if the PES image can be downscaled (as you say, back down to 576p), why can't/doesn't it upscale. to a higher resolution..?

Re: PES 2010 Response Issues Feedback
Ok, I switched off Vsync in my PC, as you guys said, and it partially solved the response times. The problem now is: the game lost that marvelous slow pace it had.
So, it seems I must choose between slow pace or good response times - cannot have both.
Did someone else notice this?

This is what happens when you switch fom 1080i to 720p on the PS3
It quickens the game and sorts out some responce issues, but the game is far better at the slower pace i think

I will say this again, turning off Vsync does not solve response times issues, just makes all the game faster (and response times become less noticeable for that matter).

spot on mate, i have tried explaining this on other sites but some people seem to think they are playing in 1080p when its impossible because the demo doesnt support it. its 720p or sd resolution for everyone.

Sorry, didnt noticed your post. Yeah its pretty much that.
So, I think a question is in place: what is the really intended game´s speed/pace ?
Is it slower like with PC vsync ON, or is it faster like with PC vsync OFF ? What about the consoles, which one (slower or faster pace) feels better ? I m sure the developers had a specific speed/pace set in mind, and I would really really like it be the slower, but Im not sure.
P.S: regardless of any speed/pace, I think response times need tweaking, just to be clear.
