Your making out Chris never liked the game. He is just stating his frustrations after 10 months of playing it

I am at the same place as Chris in respect of my love for FIFA09. Chris is by far entitled to lose interest in FIFA after by the sounds of it he has hammered the game more than most. But I cant help feel its due to the impending FIFA10 playtest and probably him knowing inside stuff of Adam and Suff. He is excited about FIFA10, I just didnt buy the sudden change of opinion so quickly .
I know what he means floaty shots and all but I cant understand how he is gonna get into PES then slate it so much but prefer it over FIFA for the shots etc. He just contradicted himself at certain points.
And know it is not a lets slag Chris off session which I dont want to get into as he does a top job and I mean that . I just cant buy into his opinions at the mo.

Sorry for causing offence guys come Oct 2nd all will be forgiven

The problem with FIFA is two-fold. One is the fatigue - there is no discernible effect on a player who sprints the entire game. The second is that the CPU player awareness (for lack of a better term) is turned up way too high. They close down passing lanes way too easily, they always know the exact timing of when to stick their foot in to stop your dribble, etc. This fact is what nuillifies the slower, skillful players (ie Pirlo & Fabegras) since there are no passing lanes for them to exploit and the opposing defenders are turbo-charged and never get tired. This is due to the simple fact that AI is by far the hardest thing to implement in a modern video game. We have all been fooled by the incredible strides in graphics and sound that we forget how far behind this AI is. By giving you unparalleled freedom in a soccer game (something that FIFA does way better then PES), the CPU defensive AI has to be ratcheted up to unrealistic levels so that you don't win each game 7-0. PES gives you less individual controls as players are often on rails but because of this they allow a bit more leeway in terms of dribbling and shooting.

For now I prefer the FIFA way, but they have to keep working on getting away from this to give us a more realistic sim.

What do you think is at fault with the lower league teams, the data (i.e. if you go into the editor and check out each player's attributes), or the way that the game interprets them?

I've been looking through the data with someone who is a FIFA data researcher this weekend (I've just finished helping him now, what a great way to spend your weekend) and personally, I think the data seems pretty accurate. I think it's the game putting too much of a negative effect on certain numbers, as if the scale isn't gradual enough if you see what I mean.

But I'd be interested to know what you think.

Sorry, didn't see this until today Chris. Without knowing the ratios of stats to actual performance it would be hard to say.

I actually did an experiment using PES a couple of years ago (just before I discovered FIFA so I was still a PES fanboy!) where I looked at player speeds, it prompted some mockery and some discussion, check it out:

Also check out this post I made on the Edge forums about how I think FIFA should be a little bit more engaging/fun (it went down like a lead balloon with all the forum regulars to be fair, they are all fairly snotty tho so I dont care ;) )

Be interested in your thoughts Chris!

Yes - I'll be taking a dictaphone and making a lot of notes to make sure I cover everything!

It'll be recorded and released sometime on the 15th I should think, when I get back home on the 14th it'll be 9pm and I'll be absolutely knackered...

I cant wait for this :)
I promise I wont be condescending in my posts.... I mean well guys :) Roll on PES 2011 and FIFA 11 :)
PES 2010 is my game of choice at the moment. FIFA 10 has been traded in and WC 2010 the AI simply isnt good enough.

The event finishes at about 3:30pm. It will take me about an hour and a half to get back home. Get the kids to bed at 7 and then i will post my thoughts about Fifa10 here on FSB. Im no game journalist but i will do my best. And ive played enough Fifa09 to be able to tell the improvements etc.

Seriously Chris, any news on the lunch menu?

No news on the lunch menu. I hope they have vegetarian options. :(

Seriously though, would you mind doing an interview with me after the event? As I said I'll be taking my dictaphone and I'd love to get your thoughts to stick into the podcast as one of our most frequent posters. Plus I'm going to be waiting an hour for the train so it should eat up a few minutes at least! ;)

Same goes for anybody else who's going!

Chris is a very VERY Critical person so we have the best possible person going to play FIFA 10! Well besides me anyway ;)

Would have been cool if CW could have gone too. He knows his FIFA as do some of his Live Mates.

The new podcast has been uploaded!

This week's podcast (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN) is an hour-long special about my experiences with FIFA 10 during the playtest on Friday.

As always we will read the forums between podcasts and all the best discussions will be given a mention, so if you have anything to say on the subject(s) please let us know. If you agree with us, disagree with us, want to correct us on something, or want to add something that's important, tell us and listen out for a mention next time.

Thanks guys.
