Messi 2009 vs Messi 2010: Compare Renders

A nod to smc for giving me the idea for this thread. Its something I'll pop on the front page later on also.

Heres a pic of the renders released this year and last year. one on the left is Messi for PES 2009 and the right obviously is him for PES 2010:



I wanted to get everyones feedback on what you think about it, whether you feel it's a clear difference and if you are impressed.

Talking to Suff we feel the upgrade in quality is clear, while not significant. The textures are better, including a more lifelike expression.

Please remember we know it's not an ingame pic, just a it of fun

Skin in the face area looks fabulous in PES 2010 pic, whereas in older pic it's somewaht plastic-like.

The difference is indeed there and I actually think the difference is pretty significant. Its the little things in the 2010 image that stand out to me, the skin texture the muscle definition and the real look of messi's limbs, as you can see muscles tendons and some veins in the new picture. Though Its hard to tell if the body models have been redone or just textured differently in the pic. I hope this image is comparable to something I will actually see in the new game when I pause it and zoom in on the players.

Yeh it would be interesting to see the difference between the pic to ingame shots. The render of messi for 09 wasn't too far away from what it was ingame imo, but the quality of PES graphics when zoomed has always been very high.

yeah it's much better in 2010 ver.

the 09 render is exactly the same as ingame gfx

and i think 2010 render will be the same as ingame gfx too

the difference is much !
first of all barca kit is better than argenteina's lol

1- face expressions .. 09 render was dead and seemed nothing like in real life .. 10 render on the other hand looks great when it comes to face expressions .

2- hair .. from the begining of the PES series hair was a huge problem when u zoom in to the player's head , from a far camera it looks fantastic , but when u zoom in it looks like a wig ! 09 render was no exception , the hair looked like they glued it to the head or something similiar , in 10 render the hair looks more lively and fine , but still there's some problem with shining areas .

3- Kit .. 10 render looks more detailed and HQ , unlike 09 render wich looks a bit chunky and MQ

4- body textures .. this is a huge improvment , u can easily see the difference between both renders .

5- shorts ... still the same ! maybe worse i think .. too baggy

finally , hope the 10 render looks similiar to ingame or the same

The Messi render from PES 2010 looks alot more natural than the render from PES 2009. The skin tone looks fantastic and also the detail that is shown is far superior compared to last years render.

The Messi from 2009 isnt too far off of ingame graphics IMO (when using a good HD TV and looking at close up replays of the player)

If the Messi from 2010 somehow translates to something close to that in-game (which I happen to believe it will! it looks about right) then I am delighted!

I was thinking along the same lines Knight. Yes its been sharpened up a bit with Photoshop or another utility but I think its in game

Very true. The guys we know have said its representative of ingame graphics, but I won't announce it until official confirmation.

But messi of PES 2010 is just Artwork . Just wallpapers. Like pictures , comerial sreens whit Adriano for PES 6 Xbox 360 version.Even if they were more a 3D models , while messi for PES 2010 is100% photoshop

His left knee looks the same nah it really looks impresive his skin texture is really good in the 09 version you can see he has a plain face but in the 2010 picture there's more detail in it he doesn't look like he go a spray than anymore

Yes, I agree with others that the most promising thing is the significantly better detail in the kit. In 2009, the blurriness of the kits really killed the overall graphics when zooming in on a player in replay mode. It looked like the kit was from PS2 while the player models were decent next-gen.

Hopefully this means the kits will be this high quality, even the user created ones...

Aren't those in-game representations?

the Pes 2009 pic of Messi you call a "render" looks exactly like that in game. I think the 2010 "render" is an actual in-game pic, any clarification on the subject matter?

and IMO the 2010 pic looks far better, the kit textures are more hi-resolution, the muscular structure of Messi is better defined, the facial texturing is a sight to behold. Overall it looks great.

yeah...the difference is clear...shorts still baggy though...2009 player model looks like a doll but 2010 looks more like a next-gen game player model
