No, he opened it today for the first time to see if he can fix it by himself. The blue ribbon thing should be fine then.
Everthing inside seems to look okay for us, we think it must be laser as mentioned by fallensoldier. However we're not sure at all.

Looking at TVs - what are the best TVs solely for gaming?

I would like to know this as well, apparently the Panasonic's TVs have a great picture but that's for live sport, gaming not sure about

I hear Samsung TVs are great for gaming.

I'd go with LG ,from my experience LG has no input lag and that's important thing when you choose TV for gaming.Ask as many as you can and choose depending on that aspect then you can search for quality ,contrast,....

really you would like a TV that is good for all aspects, live football, films, gaming and also a good 3D picture as SOME 3D TVs look to have a dark shade to it

TBH i don't know an awful lot about TVs but if you want 3d as well, i would suggest LG's cinema 3d range. Not too pricey and you can use the standard cinema 3d glasses, also comes with 7 pairs. so no clumpy glasses/charging/£50 replacements

I bought a Sony in late 2008. Wonderful all round. Not sure what their newer models are like.

Next time I'm in the market for a telly I'll deffo get either a Sony or LG. Hopefully the LG is cheaper... :D

I'm not sure if I want 3D - but the more I think about it, this TV should last me a very long time, so whilst it may be a big hit money wise not, it is more of an investment than anything.

It should be 3D TV to last long time ,and to be ready for next gen consoles (4K resolution )

I really like My Sony Bravia. I'm not having any problems with it regarding gaming. Menu is tad slow though, but that shouldn't bother you that much. One of my mates has Samsung and compared to my picture his is shockingly bad. Dunno what that's down to but that's the reason why i'm suspicious about their tv's. On the side Sony tv's tend to be a bit pricey most of the time.

Yeah everything is connected to my monitor. PC,PS3,Xbox and soon my Wii. I bought an adapter on ebay that allows you to connect it to a monitor.
