Wow. What a day of International friendlies. I was able to watch the full matches of USA v Italy, Netherlands v England, and Germany v France. With Euro2012 a few months away I have a couple observations from a neutrals persepctive:

Italy really need Cassano back and healthy. As good as Pirlo is as a deep lying playmaker, Italy really needs a #10. I was amazed to see their attack basically consisted of crosses and long balls into the box. I give credit to the U.S. they defended great and were well organized but Italy at home should be able to string some good passes together and create better scoring opportunities than they did.

Netherlands are stagnant in their formation and tactics and in my opinion will only go as far as Arjen Robben takes them. His runs open up space for others and he creates scoring chances for himself. With Afellay out injured the Dutch don't have another player with those capabilities. He really needs to stay healthy or the Dutch will have no chance.

England missed the scoring touch of Wayne Rooney but for the most part I thought they played valiantly considering all the new and young faces going up against a veteran squad that has been playing together for awhile. With that being said, they play too slow in midfield. They need to play fast out wide and let their wingers stretch the defense and open up play, if they do that they can cause problems but after watching France tonght...

They are FOR REAL. And it pains me to say that as an American  For everyone who thinks Germany will just "show up" to Euro2012 and play Spain in the final got a rude awakening today. What a match! Both teams fielded strong squads but for large stretches of the match France took the game to Germany and deservidly won. Some outstanding football was on display it really was a footballers delight. All the talk is about Spain, Germany, and Holland for Euro2012, but if their's a surprise team that can win it outside those 3 my money would be on France. Blanc has done a fabulous job with this squad.

First think holland must do is put huntelaar infront instead of van persie and play van persie on kuyt his place. And dont use vlaar in defence. Dont hope on robben he probebly get an injury as always. But our biggest problem is defence.
Dont really know how the roster is but the loser from the poule game holland germany wins the final against the same team. Or spain must be in the final than its spain ha. It can go anyway tho, i remember greece being the champion

Villas Boas has been sacked. Silly from Chelsea for so, so many reasons. Idiotic running of a club.

If he's given a chance to rebuild, he could do well.

However, if he drops certain legends, he'll get lynched

Since im Portuguese i know im well,in my opinion he isn't tailored for clubs like Chelsea and Inter.

When he went to Chelsea i predicted this precise scenario.Training Porto is easy, there's a saying here in Portugal that says that even the most mediocre coach will "risk" itself to win the championship training Porto(prove of this is that Porto presently as a real mediocre coach and is leading the league).

Is not totally bad ,but i think he took bigger steps than he could handle it.The the guy suffers from a Mourinho complex, and he doesn't realize he will never be Mourinho.

But i think he will be Inter's next coach(like i said before here countless times i suspect there's an agreement by both parties for some time already).Porto president is a good friend of Vilas Boas(they even watched the City-Porto game together)and he hinted this also recently.

Since he is from my country i wish im the best in Inter, but i think he and also the club are making a mistake.

Roma 1 - Lazio 2 :D

I have to say, Stekelenburgs red card was harsh, not even sure if it was a penalty to be honest, but since its normally Roma that have all the luck im not gonna complain!

And who pops up to score the winner? Stefano Mauri! 8-)

Udinese drawing puts us 2 clear of them, and only 3 behind Juve. Im confident of 3rd place this year 8-)

I think the whole quitting thing was a knee jerk reaction to a couple of bad results and a fall out with Tare.

Luckily Lotito managed to talk him out of it, and today Reja said "Zola? Spero che in futuro possa venire alla Lazio, ma non ora... Posso allenare ancora dieci anni"

I hope in the future he can come here, but not now, I can coach another 10 years.

Slight exaggeration, clearly happy with today, but I think maybe a sign that he doesnt want to go.

How? How, in the name of all that is holy, is Ranieri still Inter manager?

It truly boggles the mind. In the past 9 matches, we'd have picked up a total of 2 points (if every match was league based). That's 2 out of 27!

Sure, it's not solely Ranieri's fault, the team needs a massive overhaul...
BUT, and as you can see it's a large one, Ranieri isn't the man to take Inter forward. Not by a long shot.

This is what has to happen. Ranieri needs to be sacked now. Not in may, now. Bring in whoever, Villas Boas, if possible. Let him assess the players and decide who's needed and who's not. Then in the summer, make Branca follow his instructions completely and to the letter. None of the shenanigans of last year, telling Gasperini that you'd sell Sneijder and then going behind both Gasperini and, supposedly, Moratti's back and selling Eto'o

This is what I'd personally like to see, in terms of in's and outs

Sell/Release:
  • Stankovic
  • Lucio
  • Maicon
  • Sneijder
  • Chivu
  • Cordoba
  • Castaignos
  • Zaraté (Return from Loan)
  • Forlan

Now, 6 of them were part of the treble winning team and I'm sure all Inter fans would be forever grateful for their service but the time has come to dismantle the team and try to begin a new era. Simple as

As for their replacements, it's not as easy as I'm going to make it sound but I'll throw out some names anyway

Buy:
  • Guarin
  • Poli
  • Verratti (I know, I know FM players but at 19 he's played 57 times for Pescara and has already garnered much interest from top clubs)
  • Astori
  • Lavezzi (never happen but I can dream)
  • Isla (See Lavezzi)
  • Lucas
  • Destro

I know that's basically a fantasy list, especially as 4 are non-eu players, but you have to buy younger players. This team is too old. Simple as that. If we're talking realistic, take out Lavezzi and Isla

Julio César - 32
Maicon - 30
Lucio - 33
Samuel - 33
Nagatomo - 25
Cambiasso - 31
Zanetti - 38
Palombo - 30
Sneijder - 27
Milito - 32
Pazzini - 27

Average age of nearly 31 (30.72 to be exact). In all honestly, it's a ridiculous situation for a club to find itself in. No forward planning post-treble.

Now with some of the players above, as far-fetched as it is (Leaving out Lavezzi and Isla. Mainly because they're too far fetched):
Julio César - 32
Zanetti - 38
Astori - 25
Ranocchia - 23
Nagatomo - 25
Cambiasso - 31
Poli - 22
Guarin - 25
Coutinho - 19
Lucas/Alvarez - 19/23
Milito/Destro - 32/20

Average age with Lucas and Milito - 26.45
Average age with Alvarez and Destro - 25.72

Obviously there's 5 new signings there, at most and they'd cost money. I expect the likes of Lucas to be hefty in the fee department (that's if he'd join an declining club) but that team has more energy and promise than the current lineup and I'd imagine the wages would be lower to boot!

This is a wage list I found for this season. I've replaced Palombo with Stankovic, as Palombo's wages aren't shown.

Julio César - 4.5m
Maicon - 4m
Lucio - 3.5m
Samuel - 3m
Nagatomo - 0.7m
Cambiasso - 4m
Zanetti - 3m
Stankovic - 3m
Sneijder - 6m
Milito - 4.5m
Pazzini - 2.5m

Total wages of the starting 11 - €38.7m

Not exactly sky high, one might think. The total annual wage bill for Inter is €62.8m without taxes. With taxes, it's €110.2m which equates to some €2m a week in wages.

The reason I'm going on about wages are that the club is haemorrhaging money like some sort of haemorrhaging thing which means, as is the club surely can't meet FFP rules. So regardless of finishing in the European places, the club won't meet the rules.

The players I listed above to sell make €27m a year on wages. Some of them shouldn't be starting at all. Some don't. Cordoba hasn't played very much this season and he played 22 games last season. He makes €3m a year

The point of this whole rant is, the club need someone with a vision, an idea of how the club should be run. If the club has to spend in order to save, then that should be undertaken (if it's a viable option). As is the club will continue to decline unless someone can change the transfer structure and the playing personnel.

Mainly just needed to vent my frustrations at what I currently see on the pitch

Great analysis Danny. Its sad to see some of the treble winning players decline so much after only 2 years. Look at Cambiasso, only 31, but he's having an awful season. Every time the other team is in possession it appears he's chasing shadows as players sprint by him. Tough time to be an Inter supporter no doubt

While I agree that Cambiasso hasn't been brilliant, he has been played more offensive than he used to be, which he shouldn't be. He's still one of the best DM's in the world and should be played as such (also doesn't help that the defence is utter muck nowadays :( )

Lukas Podolski is poised to join Arsenal from Köln at the end of the season after the clubs reached an agreement in principle on a £10.9m transfer. The Germany striker is expected to sign a four-year contract worth £100,000 a week, according to sources in Germany. not to sure if I'm happy

Great game by Sporting tonight against City!Dzeko said before the game he didn't know us,Rui Patricio(one of the most brilliant young goalkeepers of his generation)told him he would know us soon enough, and he was certainly right!

It was the David vs Goliath(350 million euros budget vs 40 million!)and in the end David won :D

We will probably loose in England, but this was a lesson to all the clubs that think they are higher and mightier than all the rest and don't show any kind of respect to others. We see this kind a behavior all the time by clubs and also their supporters,so it's a true joy when things like this happen in football(kudos to Apoel as wel for the great game yesterdayl!).
