I know what you mean. Although I understand you can change to 3rd person viewpoint if that would make any difference.

I think its par for the course with games like these. The scale is so huge and there's so much other stuff to do that the game isn't really just about killing stuff and making it satisfying (like, for example, the Uncharted games which are specifically focused on smaller gameplay areas) but rather more to do with the "whole" experience, i.e. exploring, collecting, interacting with characters. I'm certain you know all of this anyway.
Although I'm curious to learn if the combat is actually satisfying and not "floaty" as it seems in videos.

I agree with what you have said shady, i'd like something in between that i can pick up after work but really get into that will last a few months. I feel this might be too hardcore and need too much time.

Same here. PES use to be my 'go-to' game that offered depth and longevity but also something you could pick up after a busy day at work. I'm also currently searching for an alternative.
If Skyrim gets patched in regards to the save-file issue and the lag (from what I've heard) I'll deffo be buying it.

The combat is good. It feels better than it looks in videos. Skyrim is an excellent game BUT in by experience it's essentially broken on the PS3 (once you hit 20-30 hours of gameplay). May be best to wait until Bethesda fixes the lag issues before buying for the PS3.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I've reinstalled this and turned off autosaving after yesterday's 1.03 update and I'm not really having any issues at all now (34 hours logged) other than a little bit of stuttering hear and there -- nothing gamebreaking though like before
Brilliant game. When the sun sets off the coast near Windhelm

Spent an hour and half frantically looking for my horse last night
Finally found the little fella on a bridge
I wish you could whistle for your horse like you can in RDR.

You could have just fast travelled and he'd just appear again

Same. Any sign of trouble and he runs for the hills
