James Bond

Postby ShadyKnight » Mon Nov 28, 2011 5:08 pm

Thought I'd create a thread for all things James Bond - past, present and future.

Looking forward to Skyfall with Sam Mendes at the helm. Not too sure how Moneypenny, Q and the more traditional aspects of Bond-lore will fit in with this 'post-Bourne' James Bond franchise, but I'm certain it will be more po-faced and "Spooks" type of interactions (i.e. a support network for Bond) rather than the classic "Now listen here Bond", etc. :D

Beyond Daniel Craig there's loose talk of Michael Fasbender talking up the role, on the back of his Connery-esque performance in X-Men First Class. I could definitely see him as Bond but from an actors point of view I'm not so sure. An actor is always going to be labelled as James Bond and its hard to escape the role IMO. Fassbender could be one of the acting greats depending on his choices, and without wishing to sound snobbish, I would think Bond would taint him somehow. I don't know I could be wide of the mark.

Directing-wise I would think the Bond producers would be absolutely mad not to get Chris Nolan in as director. Hell, even offer him a trilogy of Bond movies to tell a great story with a new Bond. Nolan is a self-confessed Bond fan and went on record after (or before?) the release of the Dark Knight to say he would love to direct a Bond movie one day. He said in an interview last year that the Inception scene in the snowy mountains was inspired by the classic Bond movies.

Imagine Nolan's story-telling prowess plus Michael Fassbender's acting talents!!!

Gerrard Butler for me would be a class bond
I dont mind Daniel Craig - but he isnt bond for me ....more like a James Blonde
Agree with the Nolan suggestion

Cant get past loving Goldeneye as the best Bond movie , or Brosnan being the best bond
He seemed to have a nice mix of cheese/seriousness/humour , and Pierce was the last actor to have all of the typical bond formula going on (which is the best thing about bond for me)

+ for Gerard Butler. He would be class as Bond.

Goldeneye is also possibly my favourite Bond film ever. I just didn't like the way Brosnan's Bond tenure ended, i.e. Die Another Day.

For some reason there are two writers who have been writing the Bond movies for the past 6 or so movies (Neal Purvis and Robert Wade) and I just don't like their work. The producers need to let them go and get in some fresh talent - not necessarily younger I might add, just different - and go from there.

Although a script doctor is drafted in to give the script some class and depth, i.e. Paul Haggis, Alvin Sargeant, etc., which is good but if the root of the story is written by Purvis and Wade then it really doesn't bode well for me.

You have in depth knowledge going on there
Its a shame they let Brosnan go period ....the guy was still up for more , and was great at the role
Love Goldeneye .....Sean Bean makes a great foe "For England James!"
I like it when Bond is told to get off Q's sandwich

lol good times

If there's a boxset which doesn't include the Roger Moore Bond movies then I might consider it.

A View To A Kill is his best Bond, but I'm not a fan overall. He reminds me too much of Alan Partridge. :D

For me, For Your Eyes Only was Moores best.

My favourite film is GoldenEye, and favourite Bond by far is Brosnan. He was perfect in my opinion, if you wanted cheesy one liners, he could do it, if you wanted cold hearted killer, he could do it.

Agreed, didnt like Die Another Day, shame he went out on such a cheesy, cliched film, but his other 3 are good.

Not entirely sold on Craig, although he is good, just a bit lacking in personality and suave. Casino Royale was awesome, but hated Quantum of Solace.

Hate the Roger Moore bonds. They're awful for the most part.

It's all about Connery, Brosnan and Dalton 8-) 8-) 8-)

Dalton was fantastic. He's up there with Connery IMO.

Often gets overlooked. Apparently he's the most accurate portrayal of Bond, with regards to the books.

Yeah I read that somewhere too. He was the closest to how Ian Fleming describes James Bond in the books.

Also, Dalton's Bond girls were mindblowing. Not one dodgy lass out of any of them. Lucky sod. :D

They're really pushing Skyfall in the cinema. It's on the trailers every time I go
Really don't think it looks good tbh. Daniel Craig is just an meh Bond, imo

Song is decent, incidentally
