Master League Stories

Postby RocPSU » Sat Oct 08, 2011 6:47 pm

A few years ago on the PESFan site, there was a thread for ML stories where guys would go on and recount their ML exploits (sometimes on a weekly basis and in the style of news stories  ). I'm not planning on giving such regular updates, but I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we could share our experiences of ML this year, as it seems more robust than it has been in years past. So I'll start off:

As the newest manager to grace the Anfield bench, I decided that I needed to make my mark early by making some big signings. First off, I sought out Neymar of Santos fame. Although the crafty striker was not registered to any club team, I still had to part with 13 mil pounds (!) for a transfer - it seems that PES is aware of his ability and the fervor surrounding him in the WENB community :P. Next, looking for more pace and technical ability, I went for Nasri and Ashley Young. Although negotiations fell through for Young, I snagged Nasri for a cool 23 million. With my side bolstered with some strong technical players (and a healthy Steven Gerrard), I set up an attack minded formation with Luis Suarez spearheading the attack, backed up by Neymar with Nasri and Downing on the flanks, Gerrard and Charlie Adam controlling the center of the park, and the current Liverpool back 4 holding down the defensive half of the field. All in all, I was pleased with my squad, and looking forward to the start of the EPL season.

Opening day saw my new-look Liverpool up against rivals Man United. Although we started off aggressive, perhaps we were too aggressive - Liverpool was trounced 4-1. Of all things, Young scored a hat-trick (argh!) and Gerrard missed a crucial penalty ( ). Crestfallen, we went into week 2 with our tails between our legs. Unfortunately, week 2 did little to raise the spirits of the side, as we fell 1-0 in the Merseyside derby. Gutted.

Reeling from the two opening losses to such bitter rivals, squad mentality was down. So much so that the skipper came to my office to let me know that if we lost again, squad mentality would take a further dip and that player performances would be affected. Taking the Talisman's words to heart, I made a squad change, pulling out Suarez in favor of Andy Carroll for the upcoming clash with Newcastle. I hoped that the fixture would encourage Carroll to open his scoring account for the season...

And it did! After going 1-0 down on a howler of an own goal, Liverpool responded quickly with an upper corner Carroll blast from the top of the 18. The goal was set up by, who else, Neymar, whose dribbling ability really opened up the game in the attacking third. From that point on, nearly every attacking move went through the young Brazilian, and the squad came alive. There were attacking options galore, and Newcastle looked at times as if they were chasing shadows. The added attention paid to Neymar freed up Nasri on the wing, and he was given space to make cutting runs to feed Gerrard and Adam for the occasional drive on goal. Eventually, Newcastle broke as a result of the onslaught, with Neymar (again) laying off for Gerrard to blast a trademark drive from 25 yards into the near bottom corner. The game ended 2-1, and the side was buoyed as a result. Indeed, Captain Fantastic swung by my office afterwards to let me know of the improved morale in the side. We also got word that we are in the qualifying stages of Europa League and have a good draw. Our aim is to take that trophy in our bid to return Liverpool to Champion's League qualification.

Despite the rocky start, things may just be looking up for this Liverpool squad. On the backs of Neymar, Gerrard, and Nasri, this may just turn out to be the start of Liverpool's return to the upper echelon of English club football.

A big fan of these ML reports nice work.

However.....

I am a champion of the underdog, I could only ever start with a club that people mock and insult. As a Boro fan, I will probably play as ML defaults with Boro - championship patched kit. Then i'll be back with the report! :D

Valeny then....

I wish you couldn't even have Shimizu and the defender guy actually. I wonder if I can somehow replace them, and start with the most awful side imaginable. I might even sell them immediately for added realism.....

I'll definitely be adding a few posts to this once I get the game. My aim will be to buy a team with character rather than just purchasing superstars like Neymar. My one big name though is to try and lure James Rodriguez from Porto. I'll unlock superstar first and then start my ML. I couldn't care less about whatever pounding the CPU give me, I'll revel in a PES 2012 relegation dogfight! haha

One of the posts above mention that Cellini and Minanda have retired. I don't know who are all left out of the old skool ML players (back when Valeny was Valery, Vorlander, Ivanov, Huygens, Macco, Castello, Burchet, Natchegal, Balotta, Eddington Stremer, Cecil etc) but I really hope Konami have started a whole new breed. As much as I adore those guys and I have so many fond memories of achieving against the odds with them, they have been in the game for far too long. Players like Gutierrez, Ruskin, Gierson etc have started to take the reigns but in my opinion we need many more new faces.

I'd also like to mention the right-back Virota from WE or PES United. The guy must be 40 years of age now but is still present in the games. Another unsung hero of the franchise!

Had to reset due to patch issues so I'm only half way throe my first season (sucks because I've defeated Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal, all away games, qualified into UEFA CL and was running amok in the EPL) but something got messed up and I had to restart.

Playing with Liverpool, Top Player, 10 minute games. I play three formations, 4-3-3 (for shock and awe), 4-5-1 (to suppress the fast running teams) and 4-4-2 diamond (for offensive play with a safety in the form of a DMF).

Bought Neymar and Wilson Palacios (recommending both of them). Neymar is here because I need a solid RWF (Kuyt is yet again poorly stat gifted). Neymar is solid but I still haven't figured out how to use his dribbling properly. I figured Suarez in a few games but I'm still getting there with this kid.

My second acquisition was Wilson Palacios. Despite all the midfielders Liverpool have only one is a proper DMF and it's Paulsen. I've doubted the guy, never used him until Lucas and Adam wound up in bad form. The guy blew me away!!! In tandem with Palacios, the two of them do wonders as DMF's in my suppression formation.

I'm currently 4th on the table, three points behind Chelsea, four behind Man Utd and Man City. Lost two games, drew one and won the rest. I am yet to play United and Chelsea. United I can handle but I haven't really played against Chelsea so I'm expecting that game with a bit of reservation.

Lost to Man City away (and I'm pissed cause I had beaten them last time around). They had dumb luck over me catching rebounds before my dumb defenders managed to react. Same old story.

Lost to West Bromwich Albion few fixtures ago  . Reason? Being cocky. I came in fresh out of 5-0 victory in Europa League, heart still pumping. I see WBA's formation and think I ought to approach this game more carefully (it was an away fixture). I play my suppression formation against them and stop all their attacks without a problem. But I can't get to their goal neither. Second half, score is 0-0, I change to 4-4-2 with a line midfield. I bring Carroll and Gerrard (both of whom I was resting). But they're defending so well I can't get anywhere near the goal. I switch to my 4-3-3 and bring Bellamy in to join Andy and Suarez. I'm literally throwing everything forward, forward, forward. Quick counter, Pepe Reina fumbles a cross, defender refuses to respond to a ball, WBA is one up :o . Pissed off, I go all out at them. Few minutes later another quick counter, few rebounds and a freaking bicycle kick from the edge of the box in the top corner sees me going home with two in my net. I was pissed and delighted at the same time. Pissed cause I just lost to WBA. Delighted because I dawned on me once again:

There are no easy teams in PES 2012.

I'm 4 games in Europa League group with RCD Espanjoy, Genk and SC Olhanense in my group. Beat all three in first legs and just played 1-1 in the 2nd leg against Olhanense. One more point or a win and I'm throe to the next stage.

Reached quarter finals of English Cup which I'm not really prioritizing in my first season. I'm about to play Aston Villa against whom I've just played an EPL fixture, which is the reason I'm here writing all this.

I'm still under impressions from that Villa game. For some reason, Villa is the toughest team I have to play against in PES. They don't go all out on me like Man City or Arsenal, they play it slow and STRONG, and they're hard as hell to crack.

I just beat them 1-0 in my league game and it was after a set piece situation in which I used the fact GK's don't respond well to powerful shoots. The foul had happened between the box and the side line near the corner flag (left from the goal). Since Gerrard wasn't in, I put Maxi Rodriguez on the free kick. I slap a shoot directly at GK which he fumbled, mess ensued in the six yard box and an own goal was scored. I hid the ball for the last 30 minutes and waited the game out.

Read that again. I hid the ball for the last 30 minutes and waited the game out. I LOVE THE FACT there are teams in this game that force me to hold possession until the clock runs out.

When ever Villa have possession, they use those two strikers of theirs in a way I'm having a hard time disposing them. I tried marking, didn't work. I tried offside traps, didn't work. I've tried anything short of stuffing six defenders between the posts but nothing seems to suppress Aston Villa.

Even though I'm not giving English Cup to much attention, game against Villa is gonna be one hell of a match. Winner goes on, looser goes home. Gotta love Master League.

I started a save with a Milwall FC with giggs as manager  .
Started with the defaults on superstar. Half way through the season and Im bottom of the table and have players complaining all over the place. I havent been successful in any of my chairman challenges (around 12%).

I think i might start again on top player :D
Pes 2012 is definitely going to be the one we've been waiting for.

I play with Genk, on Professional. Signed loads of players from the "Other Leagues" * I dont have an option file :-(
my team mainly consists of Belgians, Brazilians, Everton players and Dortmund players....
the first 2 players that i brought in were Ganso and Neymar. Great signings...cant reccomend them enough, especially Ganso!!
Kagawa, Hummels and Gotze were next to join up. Rodwell, Coleman and Barkley were the next batch of players to join. In between the sticks i have Michel Vorm....SOLID. Vorm has saved 3 penalties in his last 4 games for me.... That doesnt say much for my defenders as i keep giving away Pens!!!

Managed to get a couple of Arsenal players on loan, Gibbs and Wilshere... Jack Wilshere is quality in pes 2012. Seriously considering selling off a couple of players in my squad to get fundage to buy the little wizard!! Covers for Ganso when he's on a purple arrow, but he really shines for me when i play him as a CMF... Wilshere and Rodwell have formed a productive partnership in the middle for Genk...11 assists between them both!! (Wilshere takes all my corners!!) I'm dreading the day his loan period finishes...

Gibbs however, i can live without as i already have a pacey left back in my squad, Ryan Bertrand and have a fee agreed with Denis Aogo who will join in next transfer window.

A typical starting team for me is

GK
Vorm

RB-CB-CB-LB
Coleman
Zanka
Hummels
Gibbs

DMF-CMF
Rodwell
Wilshere

RMF-AMF-LMF
Kagawa
Ganso
Neymar

CF
Lukaku

Subs:

GOALKEEPER
Lee Camp

CENTRE BACKS
Palmeiri
Smalling

FULL BACKS
Bertrand
Vanden Borre

MIDFIELDERS
M'vila
Taarabt
Hoolahan

FORWARDS
Leandro Damiao
Kerrison

This year ML is very good, i never played so many time ML or even PES though... Main why i'm playing it and why i like it because of strong AI (Superstar is awesome) and graphic (which is normal, it was big improvement from PES2011 )

i hope next PES2013 will have stronger AI and Graphic...

this year you really worked grate

I really like ML this year as well. Every match, really every match is a new competition.
I finished my second season now (regular player, Ruskin, Ettori & Co).
I finished 14th, 9 points away from relegation. It was really tight, and sadly I lost my key games (the matches against lower/equally ranked teams) with one goal only, a mistake in defending that was always punished mercilessly.
However, I had two friendlies in the holidays, against Shaktar Donetsk and a Turkish club, which showed that my players are definitely improving. So maybe in my third season, I'll achieve a position that qualifies me for Europa League.
I additionally asked AS Roma for Neymar on loan. They'll refuse, I suppose. :D
Most horrific opponent? FC Bayern. They bought Xabi Alonso after their first season and destroyed me as if I were a club from 4 leagues below ^^

Re: Master League Stories

Postby Edinho » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:50 pm

Wanting to make a lasting PES series for my youtube channel, I decided to do a Master League series. I play with Norwich City(original kits thanks to Daymos) on superstar difficulty. Even though I'm a pretty decent PES player I didn't know what to expect, as I've been playing strictly online for the last couple of years.

I'll record every match during the season, and edit the videos to approximately 5-6 minutes each, including all highlights and build up play. Before each game I'll announce wether I expect a W or a L, and at the end of each match I'll show the "moment of the game", which can be the best goal, a great save, an important tackle etc..

Hope to get some followers on here, and let me know what you think! All feedback is appreciated!
