I don't know if it is even possible, because of the 1000s of games made to do with football, but i'd love to see a list, possibly in year order of everything ever released. Possible with a pic of cover/matchscreen ect ?
I'll try and post a load to get started. Please help out of you can/want to even !
My favourite football game when I was a kid. I would spend hours - literally hours - hammering this game.
Steve Austin wrote:“You people get up every morning, you throw a ham and cheese sandwich in a metal lunchbox, you punch a time clock, you let some jack-off yell at you for nine hours, then you punch out and go home to some hag. I’ll never do that, man”
John Barnes European Football ( possibly The Official Manchester United Game ver 2.0 )
Would be great fun to see some memories of real stinkers too, as well as the old skool greats. So many from my C64/Amiga days ! I'm sure there's a tonne o retro sites out there i can link some from
LOL back in the days where it seemed completely normal to have music whilst the game played Maybe PES should add an option to do that from the PES shop ?

I would welcome that option, haha. Not licenced crappy music, but Konami sound guys going nuts arcade football stylish beats
One of the amazing things about it (among many) is the fact that the back-heel there is done exactly the same way as in PES (or the other way around)! Another remarkable thing: was the first (football sim) game (ever, as far as I know) to introduce inertia, allowing for sweet sweet moves (wrong-footing, etc).
Some (nostalgia-inducing) vids:
PS: No one will ever hear me complaining about graphics...

Hahaha! I'm gonna looooooove this thread Bring back the 80's!
Sorry, but wanted to comment on some other things related to EHIS (see my post above).
It's kind of a reflection (spured by this thread): most of you will laugh when seeing the vids. They seem so outdated, graphics from the stone age, sound fx are horrible. And It's fine, normal and natural having people laughing and making fun of it. I think It is a sign of how much we evolved! And I'm all for that too. But the gameplay was brilliant and in some things I think it was better than it is now. It is not nostalgia talking. I really think in some cases we really went backwards.
One example: the other day we were talking about manual vs. assisted passing, here, in the forum. I was defending that both have a place in current games. It was a great surprise to me having to explain how| I don't know what surprised me te most: having to explain how or the fact that they didn't have the same notion I had (as it seem so obvious to me). Back to the example. This game had full manual pass. No assistance here. And nobody needed it!
Second example (thinking of it as I'm writing, both examples are connected, one being the consequence of the other, and this helps my point): We had one button to make a pass. One. And we could do exactly the same passes we do in PES. Strong, short, long, lofted, back-heel, you name it, we could do it). In PES we have 3 (three!) buttons that we can use to make a pass! A huge backward step, in my mind.
Thank you for reading.
Peace

Some would say that Microprose Soccer was the pinnacle of 8-bit footy gaming, but i would have to argue that Emlyn Hughes was infact a far superior game of footy. For it's time, the moves available to you and the multi-directional passing shooting made it the first game, that i can remember, where you didn't have to be facing in the exact direction you wanted the ball to go. Coupled with a full editing system ( teams, colours, player names, competitions, player skills etc ) i don't think it can have an equal of it's day.
Here is Microprose's game which, in terms of the gaming press, was probably lauded above all. A good game with a great World Cup mode and possibly the first game to include dynamic weather ?
What do you think ? I'd go for EHISoccer every time
I remember that the old games show GAMESMASTER used to have championships using this game
Playstation 1 GOAL STORM
Konami's pre-cursor to ISS Pro ? This appears to be the first 3D footy game Konami released for the PS1 at least, tho i could be wrong. It's definitely pre-PES/ISS
Can't find a video of gameplay ANYwhere on the net sadly !
I remember it well for the shots feeling great because the 3D net would move in relation to the ball when you scored Never saw that in a game before, not in 3D anyway !
Possibly the ifirst ever 3D footy game ? I PLAY 3D SOCCER by Simulmondo ( 1991)

Personally I never *liked* the top-down view approach in a footy game. By all means, side view is far superior, in my book. You helped me remember that I always found it astonishing when some developer/company would choose top-down view to make their game. It's like they approached it like this: "Let's make an awesome footy game. How to start? Ah, the view. Top-down or side? Show of hands, guys? Top-down? Side? Ah, top-down view it is then!". I would quit on the spot! It's like they are knowingly making a game that is broken/crippled from the start! This is only my opinion. And I know many people enjoyed this type of games (I've seen it with my own eyes). But there is a reason not many games are done these days with top-down view. The same reason why a real football match isn't broadcasted like that. And they could do that with that spidercam used at the World Cup.
Having said that, side view is not a perfect solution because of angle distortion. But is the best we can have IMO. Also, as we, the majority of gamers, are also football lovers, we get to *train* our brains just by watching the beautiful game on TV. Added bonus!
And all I said above is just one more reason why I prefered and prefer EHIS! Glad you liked it too!

Never a fan of Kick Off i guess ? I loved the Kick Off series, because of the "free" ball and the somewhat hardcore learning curve that meant you had to put in a shift to get good at that game. My mate's would pummell me constantly until i got an Amiga for myself and then had the time to sit and learn it for myself
How about the Sensible Soccer series which was Up/Down a'la' Kick Off, yet tilted slightly so it was more over the shoulder...kinda ? That gameseries was my favourite Amiga experience of all time, especially when you had the option to fully create your own league and cup structures right down to details that never see the light of day now. Plus, due to the fact the graphics were SO simple, SWOS managed to include EVERY league in the world i do belive I remember finishing a season with my chosen club and then sitting thru the entire tables from the finished competitions elsewhere, seeing who was winning the Indian division 2 or who were champions in El Salvador ! True world immersion, albiet on a very cute scale
For me also, personally, side view can never be bested. Especially this "new" pitch side (PES 3 ) cam view which i absolutely love to pieces. For me, aside from I PLAY 3D SOCCER's boot level behind the player view, the very worst cam view that was tried out was actually FIFA's original isometric view on the Megadrive etc. Terrible ! Tho i have subsequently found a load of 8-bit 16-bit home computer games that used that view beforehand !
Here's a couple more oddities :
PETER SHILTON'S HANDBALL MARADONA
And the truly truly awful, comic book stroy based ROY OF THE ROVERS, which was a strange adventure game, where you had to find all of your kidnapped team mates within a certain time otherwise Roy has to play the Cup Final on his own ! HAHAHAAHAHA, not postpone the final until the police have carried out an investigation and prosecution...no just make Roy play alone against 11 men in the Cup Final.... FANTASTIC !!!

Man, I tried so so hard to get on board with both Kick Off/Sensible Soccer! Everybody around me was enjoying them and loving them but I could never trick or force my brain into liking them, let alone loving them... As I explained before, I could never got past the *broken/crippled* feeling I got when playing them. My loss I'm sure... Good memories to revist tho. Thanks for that!

Haha i keep finding stuff, i'm becoming obsessed !
Sadly i can't embed this video here, but please follow this link and watch a genuinly funny review of CHRIS KAMARA'S STREET SOCCER and whilst they are playing the game, keep an eye out for the players faces at the bottom of the screen and enjoy Jin's hairstyle
I don't recall this one, but it looked pretty bloody great. Again, for it's day, the ball physics are really nice i think But that camera view looks like it'd make it hard work to enjoy this game when actually playing ?
TOTAL FOOTBALL ( Domark 1996 )
Uhhhh...ow wow....check out this one. Remember this is on the Commodore Amiga and was released in 1990
Great stuff. Some of them I never heard of, let alone played! What you are doing is really public service, or more appropriately, community service. It's a good place for all members to see the early days, and how far we evolved.
History is essential. How is that Santayana quote? (googling it right now... Got it!):
Santayana wrote:Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
And above all: it's great fun! Keep'em coming!

Yes and it was the first attempt, then they released Winning Eleven '97 / Goal Storm 97 which was the first game I played from the series.
This sure brings back some memories.
And this one is one of my favorites, Super Sidekicks on Arcade and Neo Geo:
