Top Spin 4 Discussion Thread

Postby Alolo91 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 9:22 pm

I will start off by saying that this game is Amazing. :D

Anyway, Started a Career last night on Hard and won the first tournament. Playing the second one now. So far so great. :)

Plus, My created player looks absolutely awful and not enough hairstyles which makes him even uglier. :(

Even though it's a great game there is some things i would really want:

Better Player Models
Better Graphics (Atleast the players)
More Players
Deeper Career Mode.

Kinda retarded first post. Will be more detailed next time. :D

End thread. :D

I'm addicted to this game. I'm at level 16 with my created player now. He has genuinely improved since a few weeks ago when he couldn't even tap the ball without it going out. Now I'm hitting cross-court balls with full power that stay just within the line. Amazing.

Offline tournament mode would've been perfect. Not much of an online player TBH.

I agree with better player models, but I love how the longer a match goes on, the more the players start to sweat. First their neck and back get's sweaty, then if it's a really long match their whole shirt get's drenched. Nice detail, lol.

What difficulty are you playing on and what kind a player do you want him to become? I.e What stats are you improving?

My player is currently on level 6 and i'm improving his Power, Speed and Serve the most. Almost a like Roddick/Blake clone but only faster. :D

I have also noticed that i'm truly awful at timing my shots. I'm always getting "Too Soon". :x

I'm an online player but prefer playing against the AI. I have played one online game so far and it ended up with a smashed controller.

But as you say. A Offline tournamnet would be nice.

Yeah i noticed that too. I like those kinda details. Especially when the crowd is cheering way too loud and the announcer tells them to be quiet. :D

I'm playing on Hard and I hope to reach Legend status.

Although I'm a bit worried as I'm on Level 16 (the max is 20) and my forehand is only in the late 60s... :? If I'd known more about assigning points before starting career mode, I'd have done it better. Oh well.

I'm trying to get a good balance between Offensive Baseline and Defensive Baseline. The bloody annoying thing is that in order to improve stamina and speed, for some reason the serve values also get increased which isn't what I want. They should allow us to modify each value.

Played the demo, it's alright. Wasn't paying attention to the difficulty, so maybe you can turn it up. Might try it again later

Gameplay-wise TS4 is sublime. I can't fault it. But the non-gameplay aspects of it are not well thought out. The career mode is good but superficial and lacking in quite a few glaringly obvious areas. For example, I started a new career mode and for some reason the default mode was set to 'Tie Break' instead of the normal 3 games / 3 sets. Now every game I play is 'Super Tie Break' and I can't change it back.

Therefore, there's not enough time in a match to complete my coaches objectives, because the matches are too short because they're tie-breaks FFS!!! I have to keep flipping between Exhibition mode and Career mode in order to have my created player complete the coach objectives in a proper length match! Then I have to go back to Career mode in order to spend the XP I've earned on levelling up :D

Still love it though...

I created a new player after I got the hang of assigning XP for points. Much happier with my second creation and I'm on Level 16 again. Class game and I can't wait to become a legend.

I beat Roddick in the BNP Paribas Open in Paris. I hate that idiot. :D

I've played the balls outta the game for the first two weeks, but when I started to play in 4 star tournaments in Career Mode, as a level 13 or something- I hit a brick wall. Couldn't beat any of the licenced players. So I reduced the difficulty from normal to easy. Then it became abit too easy.
The game is amazing, head and shoulders ahead of Virtua Tennis.
Getting Aces against the CPU is non existent for me. Everytime I attempt it, its a fault.
Still love it though

I played on Hard since the demo. I got battered 6-0 6-0 6-0 for a week or so. But I persisted until I began nicking the odd point. Before you knew it I was beating the CPU (the likes of Roddick, Federer, etc) on Hard but you can't locus focus for a second. My next aim is to go up to Very Hard but I'm scared.. :D

Pete Sampras is a beast. You simply can't touch the guy. Every time I feel good about myself I give him a game, and I end up getting bummed. Sad times.

After every shot, try to reposition you in the middle and behind the baseline.

Use Slice shots alot. Make the opponent run.

Try to time your shots well.

Take Control Shots.

Also, make good use of the analog stick to place where you want the ball to go. The upper half of the trajectory of the stick = the area of the court closest to the baseline. The lower half of the trajectory of the stick = the area in-front of the net (depending on which direction you push it).

Use a wide variety of shots as Alolo says. Try to anticipate your opponent's next shot - but don't wrong foot yourself! :D

Be aggressive (i.e. dominate proceedings). If you allow your opponent to take control of the match, he'll run you ragged. Make him react to YOU.
