Re: PES 2010 PRESS RELEASE FEEDBACK

Postby Ezekiel » Wed Apr 08, 2009 3:28 pm

I’ve attempted to summarise my thoughts on the press release section by section… apologies for the length!

Gameplay: Aside from the AI, which is covered later, I think revamps to both the keepers and the referees are vital. I do think PES keepers are already superior to Fifa counterparts because they actually behave like humans, but a few new animations and a cut down on parrying would be welcome. For Referees, the harshness of their decisions needs to be reviewed… especially when it’s the AI making the tackle! Another vital component for the referees is proper advantage and delayed bookings (and effective quick free kicks!).

Visuals: Everything sounds great here, and (from my non-programming perspective) I’m not convinced there is need for a magical new ‘engine’. Hopefully these improvements include the extensive customisation from the past – shirts, socks, earrings (lol), etc.

Animation & Moves: Probably the most important announcement for me. It’s imperative that the robotic feel of 08 & 09 is removed. I have no problem with 8 directions, as I appreciate the difficulty in implementing full 360 to a football game, but please mask it better with fluid animations. However, the PASSING should be 360 and this would remove a great deal of frustration with misplaced passes. I also hope the ‘user-friendly’ remark doesn’t imply that tricks are still assigned to the left stick.

Atmosphere: Fantastic news IF it means implementing the away disadvantage in older PES games and the subliminal momentum shifts that seem to have been diluted in recent years. Crowd improvements are great news however, and will add immeasurably to the experience.

Master League: Exactly what I wanted to hear. It’s a testament to the genius of the ML that it’s still captivating despite remaining largely unchanged. Adding further managerial aspects and basing it (slightly) more in reality would make it as addictive as crack.

AI & Individual Play: Perhaps it should be Teamvision 1.0 because I never saw it at work in the first place! But if it delivers what it alludes to, it will make a world of difference. Defensive AI eliminating soft goals is great, but having players make intelligent runs is essential, which is where I hope the ‘new level of control’ comes into play. The

Individual Play Characteristics come across as truly ‘next gen’, and if they work properly it would be a real milestone for football games and further consolidate the unique player feel PES excels at capturing.

Strategy: As someone said earlier, PES is already the pioneer in terms of strategy, and if these additions are properly implemented and have a tangible impact on games, we are in for a treat.

That’s just my 2p (or 50p!) on the release. As has already been mentioned, we need more than a slick arrangement of words to rebuild the trust, but I do feel that these changes are far more comprehensive than anything suggested before. Fingers crossed!

What about Edit mode?

Postby manu » Wed Apr 08, 2009 3:28 pm

As there was no word about edit mode I guess it will basically stay as it is. But Konami if you read this, please make sure we find ALL the kit styles to create the missing teams of PL and Bundesliga perfectly. The amount of work to realize this should be redicilous compared to the rest you claim to have.
Another aspect is the missing possibility to import graphics on the xbox360. Please get it done!

I apologise if this is too much of a whish list but I feel edit mode needs to be better and it wasn't mentioned in the pr.

Here's my feedback (only cons)

PHOTO FEEDBACK:

- It looks ingame (albeit photoshopped), and not a CGI... which is AMAZING.
- The color palette seems to be similar to PES2009, unfortunately. I would have liked a more vibrant one (like FIFA, like the Premier league colours we see on TV)
- Only the mouth seems to be animated (like PES6,2008,2009...)

GAMEPLAY FEEDBACK:

- Has no frank mentioning of 360 movement. I hope that doesn't mean the players appear to be moving in diagonal prefixed lines as in PES2008/9....

But other than that... EVERYTHING SOUNDS as if PES is back to its simulation roots.... which is AMAZING. More news/screenshots please guys!

wow didnt exspect konami to say something this soon, :( hopefully they learned from EA and being more happy to talk about this game, unlike before.
but going by the press release looks like they pulling out all the stops with this game. (shit or bust) which i think is a good thing from them, because pes needs it.

I doubt we'll ever get full 360 movement due to the problems associated with it

I think they should be aiming for 32 directional movement. I don't think that's too much to ask for in the next-gen age.

Everything mentioned in the press release is what we've been wanting to hear. Hopefully they can come through on their promises. Just a couple things that I feel are important, in addition to what others have mentioned:

"Intuitive zonal defending will cover spaces and players need to look constantly for new ways to attack."

To me, looking constantly for new ways to attack is very important. I haven't felt that I needed to really vary my attack patterns since PES 5. I could if I wanted to but I could also do the same thing every time without any adaptation from the CPU defense.

"Improved Visuals and Match-Day Atmosphere"

PES 08/09 have a very sterile feel to them. It just doesn't feel like you are in the stadium...too wide open or something. PES games of old had a much grittier and realistic feel to them. Hopefully they can get back to that feel that I really can't describe. It just felt better. And realistic chants and crowd reactions are key to this as well.

This is great news, brand new game play engine & animations, Champions League , Europa League & ML revamp were all necessities for us football fans, plus the AI, player individualism, strategies & match day atmosphere, thanks for listening konami great to know you check the forums regularly, its all about communication!

It is early days and im aware that you cant reveal any more details at this moment but the Key features for me like many in PES2010 would be:
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

1. Flares in Italian Stadiums: eg. Lazio fans light blue ones, Roma fans light red ones.

2. More detail in licensed teams: last year my Napoli team looked horrible although PES had their diadora license, but numbering on shirt was generic and printed atrociously, high up on the collar, 3rd kit was used as 2nd kit but with wrong coloured shorts, Standard Liege who were also licensed with diadora as was Dinamo Zagreb the year before, had the official numbers, shorts & socks detailed authentically, all of which left me scratching my head why not Napoli? i hope & assume konami was already busy with PES 2010, but can u fix it correctly this time.

3. Third Kits: Every club has them.

4. Mix & Match: Happens in England & Italy amongst others i believe, interchangeable shirts, shorts & socks for all 3 kits.

5. The obvious one more teams one even if they are generic, a couple more Argentine, Brazilian, maybe Uruguayan club teams. Why not the elegant Japanese clubs?

6. Generic German league with fake clubs and names.

7. Second divisions for the big 3: Italy, Spain & England even if they all have fake club names and player names.

8. CL, EL & training incorporated into Master League (with real currencies).
________________________________________________________________________________________________

Unfortunately i did not like PES2009 at all & having gone over to Fifa 09 this year and to some extent still being disappointed, i hope that konami will deliver PES which has always been the better game.

Just to re-iterate Adam's point, can you post your wish lists in another thread? Lets keep this strictly to your initial reactions to Konami's Press Release.

I promise I wont be condescending in my posts.... I mean well guys :) Roll on PES 2011 and FIFA 11 :)
PES 2010 is my game of choice at the moment. FIFA 10 has been traded in and WC 2010 the AI simply isnt good enough.

Cheers dude.

And like 01srainey said its difficult to compare this to last year. Its much earlier, with loads more info. There's an admission that forum feedback was used, and even the fact that many improvements have been bugging the community for ages.

I still think the video will be the key this year. It can't be bad, or even good. It has to be mind blowing.

Re: PES 2010 PRESS RELEASE FEEDBACK

Postby TomSD » Wed Apr 08, 2009 4:28 pm

This is a very unusual press release. The tone is one of determination, and consideration. They have clearly taken on board the feedback on PES 2009, Furthermore they have identified where they think the product is on solid ground and emphasized that ("getting into the gameplay experience"). Someone in marketing is changing the culture there.
It is also wide ranging, and paints broad brush strokes. The emphasis on simulation is great and is the key differentiator they have over FIFA and they know that. We can infer that UEFA video in is good but that new licenses will probably be limited. WENB has a very useful thread - PES what I want from you. If we could ever summarize that - who knows Konami may be doing just that now, it would be a great wishlist to send to Mr. Jon Murphy. I get the impression also from the press release, that Europe may now be listened to since Murphy is referred to. I have a concern though that I expressed elsewhere on the WENB forum. Sometimes when you have a lot of personnel on a software project, your ambitions increase in proportion to the number of people on the project, but the end product can be chaotic, because it is difficult to weave so many groups developments into one seamless product. So when you look at the press release and its breadth, you can see that there are quite a lot of teams and they probably contributed to each section of the release. So this PES 2010 to some degree will be a big experiment as they have not operated this way before. Keeping Gameplay pure with a lot of additional features will be difficult. Because effective gameplay requires intuitive flow, and not overthinking too many options in terms of what to do in the moment. This in my opinion is why FIFA is poor, they gave you all the tricks, but do you really perform more than 2 when the action is going on. The game is at a very interesting crossroads, and Konami have shown there ambition to take it to a new level. It will be fun just to see how they do it. Good luck to them.

Great news from Konami! I really hope that all of this come true!

I am really excited by one thing that I didn't see anyone talking about: there was a european guy (konami's european team leader) talking about the game. That confirms what Adam was saying about interaction between Japan and Europe. Like my brother said: "ok, the japanese guys can make the Teamvision, but Konami has to use european guys to check that hole thing, as a soccer game".

Another great thing is that they created separeted departments to manage different parts of the game. That is really important!

Hopes are high!

yeah he's got a good point, its like someone said earlier, the screen that has come with the press release, it does look very good but he cant more or less say its fact that is in-game, we all have to see in-game footage to prove it.
Dont get me wrong I'm not attacking anybody, i'm not like that, I want that to be very similar to in-game models but having been witness to so much hype over the years since 360/PS3 came out I cannot raise myself to get that excited despite my wish for Konami to deliver a stunning football game.

You know what the current PES situation is like? Having a winning lottery ticket and losing it in the wind, you spend so much time chasing it hoping your dream is realised and not pondering what if or what could/should of been.

Keep up the good work anyway guys, its appreciated.
