Big week for FIFA 13 this week.

You'll get lots of impressions at some point. Pretty much all the FSB lads have played the game, hopefully they'll have a podcast this weekend too.

Any hints to what it's like, Adam? Just a wee small one? Impressed? Not impressed? On the fence? Go on. You know you want to.

Well I'm not the right guy to ask, all the PES stuff has meant I missed everything :(

But, a good hint, going off the many many people I've spoken to (press and community) is that after reading everyone's initial impressions, you guys are pretty much spot on with what you guys should be excited about, and what to be a little concerned about right now.

A lot of that is the message EA are trying to get across, so the things they have spoken about have come across very well. The issues come into play when talking about the defensive side of the game. Not much has been done right now to that, but they have spoken about how it will improve.

Overall, things are looking really good. I know Suffwan came away very impressed. he told me it's been a while since he played the game early and felt more than content with what he saw.

No need to bring PES into it, but you have to have some perspective too. One series doesn't have to push the boat out every year, while one does. EA are in a good place.

Good to hear, Adam.

The first touch thing really must change the dynamic of the gameplay, at least that's what I imagine. I expect that to have a bigger impact to the game than a lot of the features they've added down the years, which will come as a bit of a surprise to people. It's the defensive aspects to the game that EA need to be very careful about, and I'm surprised that they're not overhauling it like how they are with the attacking, though how good that is remains to be seen. It's good to know they are aware of the defensive flaws at the very least. I think it's vital they get it right.

The first touch feature seems brilliant in theory, i hope it will be working well in game. But i cant help but thinking that it wont be that big of a deal if the power of passes is still assisted by the cpu. Direction assist would be ok but im hoping for full manual power controls

I think this is the sort of thing that manual users have been waiting for and will really separate skill from assistance. Manual passing is still better than assisted or semi, but there's still not enough of a benefit to actually practice using manual because semi players can just pick up a pad and start spraying passing about with little to no error. I keep having an argument with mates of mine who insist that my passing is shit (I use manual) and that their passing is better (assisted only). This is in 2v2 games, so if I try to play a clever ball in space and my team mate's run doesn't match, then of course manual passing is shite and I can never pass the ball straight according to him. It does my head in. They all don't get the fact that assisted is on rails and you don't have complete freedom of passing. I wish EA would grow some bollocks and remove that ridiculous setting, because it's holding the game back. Hopefully now manual passers will reap the rewards of having full control so that they make sure a pass is into feet at the correct pace, or just in front of a play in space so that the player won't take a poor touch, as opposed to semi or assisted, which shouldn't have as much control and you are prone to making more errors instead of vice versa.

If I think about it - I don't think that the defensive part of FIFA 13 becomes a problem at all.
Because the Tactical Defending feature works just fine in FIFA 12! The problem is that your teammates are not very good at covering opponents, and think defensively in general. The making of a standing tackle is only difficult because the AI is equipped with super-human reactions. Which makes it almost impossible to time a tackle!

Now I'm pretty sure I've read that EA already said that the AI will react less super-human in FIFA 13.
