FIFA 12 News, Information & Discussion Part 5
Re: FIFA 12 News, Information & Discussion Part 5
The AI should definately react better to those lobbed trough balls, even though they are "improved" or "worse" or what you say. Wich is a good thing. One thing that should be looked at too, is the way players are taking down the ball on their chest, or with their feet. Sometimes it seems like they have some kind of magnetic field around them, just soaking in the ball magically. Makes no sense sometimes. Tweak tweak tweak tweak!

Love the little precision steps you can take around the ball using the L1 button

Re: FIFA 12 News, Information & Discussion Part 5
Thought I'd share some vids to show how effective and good dribbling is this year.
First two videos show dribbling with LS and analogue sprint only...
Second two show LS and precission dribbling...
All small subtle touches, just to take it out of reach of the defender or protect the ball. With tactical defending it makes it more realistic in the sense that runs close to a defender are possible and not auto-radius tackled as bad as 11.
Really impressed. There's plenty I'm not impressed with, but I thought it was worth mentioning, as I think this is excellent this year.
I was playing AI on World Class by the way.

The goal was a fluke. I seriously don't think that I've ever seen a player try that in real life, and if it isn't a famous goal seen in real football, then I doubt EA would put that in there as some kind of flair volley. Looks like he's going for a diving header and fucked the timing up and it's come off the back of his heel.
Anyway, been hammering the demo on the PC for the past few days, and my mind is made up. Not only is this the best Fifa to date, but it's the best football game I've ever played, and I've played most of them since the early 8-bit days. The game is extremely realistic. Forget the daft stupid complaints you'll see and read from people moaning from how someone scored a goal like the one mentioned above (probably about 1 in a 1000 goals will happen like that) and other stuff like how a net bulges. A game does not live or die on such petty niggles that vary for person to person. I'm seeing different things happen in this demo each and every single game I play that sometimes just impress me, and other times just blow me away. And if they iron out some of the little niggling things with the Impact Engine and refs (some let off the ball murder go unpunished) then that's for the better. Can't wait to get my hands on the retail. EA, please do not mess with the formula too much between now and then, please.

Re: FIFA 12 News, Information & Discussion Part 5
This FIFA is probably the first one I've played where its not immediately clicked, in terms of me becoming very familiar with the game and walking through the defence with one-touch passing or great long-range screamers.
Much like the 2nd PES demo, I'm not liking how it plays at the moment although the PES situation changed late last night, but that's another subject.
Note, I appreciate the fluidity of the animations and the overall movement of players (and I am scoring and passing well...) etc. I guess FIFA really does have a learning curve this year. Personally, FIFA11 was immediately engaging and I really liked how it moved. Anyway I will persist as usual.

Other than being too short I'm really enjoying the FIFA demo. Love the ability to control the ball intricately. The pace of the game and AI pressure is perfect for me. The shooting, which was always somewhat of a gamebreaker for me in the past, is very good now. Like Fintan, I couldn't care less about the petty niggles that some people indulge in. The demo plays an impressive game of football. Looking forward to the 27th

I agree in a lot of respects, people keep harping on about how the gameplay is so important then in the same breath post an impact engine-ism or a spectacularly unrealistic goal by someone else that they've never scored, or will probably never score themselves.
I'm reserving final judgement until playing online and playing retail code. What I'd like to see is the passing having a bit more zip on it by default. Sometimes the overly slow passing negates the point of holding the ball and making space, because by the time the ball receiver finally gets the ball from a pass, defenders have shifted all back into position.
Also my other big gripe is the player switching that's still pretty dire. Not only does it auto select completely the wrong player in tight situations but the RS does aswell. Pointing one way on it can send the cursor over to the other side of the field. Not to mention the times where the cursor locks and the game just simply refuses to let you swap player altogether. Very frustrating, especially as the importance of having the right player at the right moment has been amplified by tactical defending.
We'll see...

Re: FIFA 12 News, Information & Discussion Part 5
Really taken in with this FIFA demo like no other one before it! I have been trying the PES 2nd demo and I just cannot get going in it because after 2 or 3 games and easily scoring goals I am drawn back to FIFA for the challenge of mastering the new defending system.
People who picked FIFA for the pick up and play aspect will HATE the new defending and instantly switch to the method of old (not online) but I cannot stress enough to keep on with it because when it clicks it gives me a feeling I have not had in a football game since PES6!
I usually buy the 2 titles every year but for the first time since 2006 I will only be purchasing FIFA this year.
Cannot wait for the full game, I am totally taken in by this demo!

I am also liking the demo big time, so addictive and have to keep on not trying to dive in on AI as skips past me and score lol. Loved the fact that you have to work hard to get the ball back through jockeying and positioning . The ball physics are superb and to think that we can even alter so much when we get full game with the sliders. Some kids were moaning about the new celebration close ups on official forums but i love them as you get to see the kits, faces etc and adds to the atmosphere. So glad EA are taking these steps to make game more realistic and also letting people who are not so good changing difficulty etc through the sliders.

PS. teammate control is vital when defending.

My mind is made up now based on fifa 12 demo and the pes demo 2. Im going for fifa this year. I just dont hope EA change it to the worse based on all the little whiner kids on the official forums. I dont mind they change it to be even more realistic but i hope they know what they have done compared to fifa11 and are confident enought so they try to make a game for the hardcore football/sim fan.

Its weird that this demo seems to be polarising the community. I think the game is brilliant and plays the most realistic game of football ever from a fifa game. The game is slower and you have to pass and build up play and dribbling is so much better and more satisfying. I geniunly believe that people who aren't enjoying it are trying to play it like fifa 11. People need to not compare it to previous fifa's and pick it up an play it like a completely new game, play it like you havent ever played fifa before.

Exactly, it's just shrugging off old (bad) habits.

Animations aside, how do those who feel FIFA plays like a realistic football "sim" arrive at that conclusion? I'm genuinely curious.
