-Make commentaries about past games that you played against that adversary;
-If your player is near or is the top scorer or assist, it should be talked about. If he becomes the top scorer or assister in that game, it should be screamed!;

I dont know if this has been said already, but for the US PES 2010 Spanish Language Commentators, we get mexican announcers. Personally I, and i am sure all of south america perfer the Classy Argentine Announcers that commentate for the majority of south american Copa Libertadores matches!

Why go with the mexican announcers, compared to the more prestigious Argentine style, and the famous Announcers like alejandro fabri, walter nelson, and Fernando Niembro?

- what the commentators say and when they say it. for example they say the wrong things at wrong times.

- sometimes they finish their whole sentence off eventhough someone is about to score, they shold stop what they are saying and and start talking about something exciting thats about to happen for example a 1 on 1 situation.

-this also sometimes means that commentators lag behind whats happening on the pitch. for example they to busy saying something and in that time a player has scored or something and after a while when games going on they finally talk about the goal or chance missed.

- like fifa they can talk about stadiums historic players like giggs, managers, just facts and opinions mirroring whats been going on in football for example fergie and maybe benitez being rivals. learn a lot from fifa. another example wenger and his philosophy how over the years brings in and develops young talent and how he likes good passing futbol.

- overall passion and fluidity in commentry like theyre watching the game. genuine excitement about spectaular moments such as skills passing moves and goals

- NO SCRIPTS
Isn't what commentators come up with what makes them better than others?

- MAKE A POPULARITY SURVEY, THROUGH ANOTHER NAME THAT'S NOT KONAMI NOT TO LOSE OBJECTIVITY.
SIMPLE AS THAT!

Kepp Jon Champion he's a good commentator, replace Lawro with Chris Waddle them commentate together on ESPN. Get them to record the script together.

Talk about things like 'Ryan Giggs has been the model professional football for so many years now' Rooney wears his heart of his sleeve etc.

Talk about history of clubs, fixtures, staduims etc.

-Konami should record a new set of commentary team doing some 10 live commentary on PES matches and take all the unique stuff they say. It makes it very natural.
-They should also find away to encode trivia and stats like the way football manager and NBA 2k do it to make the commentary seem more uptodate especialy in master league.
-Pronounce players names right. Kowt and not kwyt (Kyut). Players full names should not be pronouced together i.e "Dani Alves" should be "Dani" and "Alves" this will save file space as names can always be reused.
-Commentray Duo must show equal enthusiasm and never ever criticise the player or manager ("He's lost his marbles", "He was like a cow in the field"). Its just plain rude.
-Commentary Should not always pronouce a players full name. Commentary should also not face accents e.g. fake annoying lisp for Spanish player name Jiminez - Jimineffff (WTF) or the extra ordinary Italian accent. It doenst sound right.
-Commentary from goal scores should continue into the restart and not just end at the replay. They need to drop the extra analysis they give at the restart ("if 2 goals was a safe lead..."). Half time commentary can be more indepth and man of the match must be announced during the match.
-Commentary should talk about transfers and events going in on in other leagues/ matches and crisis in the general football world during season mode rather than call peoples names who recieve the pass all the time. Giving varied descriptions on teams tactics make more sense than saying "its good to see defenders who can pass the ball".
-Variety with intent is the key to longevity.
-Commentary team should start talking as soon as the players are in the tunnel so they can give more info on the teams, their standings key men, tournament and league progression, team play styles, weather(More varied), crowd attendance (with actual visual representation like empty stadiums) and it should lead right to the kick off.There shouldnt be a pause when the referee blows the whistle and the player hasnt kicked the ball either before kick off or set play. It add to the seemlesss organic flow of the athmosphere

Your First Idea is great. Lawro out at all cost.

Dude your second Idea is a mixed bag cos you will end up creating a senario where popular teams have better commentary and lower teams have boring matches. It would also make it annoying if the commentary just keep saying only that about your player. They need to find generic ways of describing player attributes and their career paths and add more variety to it. You would want to be able to hear new things about a player and not random comments like "he is hard to get off the ball", "He has good stamina" "unstoppable at full pace" those attributes are terribly obvious. Even the examples you give are thing Commentators dont say anymore cos we all know these things about popular players. You dont want old recycled stuff in a 5 year master league. Think about it Ryan Giggs "N times Cup winner - League winner" AI can then use that to find a form of association Like "He must be a veteran to have won so many awards" "He must be a good player for his club to have kept him that long" "He is a true fan and loyal as he has been a 1 man club". They should look ath Football managers Commentary script editor and see how they do theirs and can build on it. In FM you get stuff like Making his 300th league apperance, scored his 30th league goal, making his first First team start. This would also easily transfer to my player mode and allow them to give concentration to individual players (E.g looking at Form and Performance rating they can assume Drogba is at the peak of his career).

In times of Blu-Ray and HDD storage it should be no problem, to add gigabytes of commentary lines to the game. This would offer a high variety. One thing that I really don't like in PES2010 regarding commentators is the missing enthusiasm and the slating comments, which appear from time to time.
Another example of a real bad commentary (translated from German to English)
Szenario: Becoma a Legend, my first season, second match in the A team, first goal:
"I've watched him for years now, and he is one of the most talented players I've ever seen. He scores with his right foot, with his left foot, or with his head."
With all respect, I'm at an age of 17 and never appeared in the premier league before.. It is ok, if he says that in my 6th season, or about other players like Messi or Rooney, etc.
I'm the PES Messiah's first and only Prophet.

God forbid. We want commentary not poetry. That is so cheesey and would cheese us out after one master league season. We should get Commentary DLC or procedural commentary.

Yes there is a problem. Its not that easy to read that much data at once. Streaming data isnt perfect yet. Have you not seen GTA still has problems streaming textures and polygons. Konami is not as big as EA so they need to go out and research for that especially since the PS3 would stream differently from the 360. Thats why MGS4 cannot come to the 360 yet.

Before every game the commentators should give a brief description of the matchday atmosphere, any breaking news about the players,and a little more excitement in their commentry eg."if ronaldo scores a goal when there is little time to spare the commentry shud be: and ronaldo...... will this be the equaliser.....he scores :o ......ronaldo the man has answered his critics......and the manager will be relieved"lol

I think local commentary would be cool, by that I mean, if youre playing in the Premiership you get Motson or Campion or whoever, if youre playing Serie A you get an Italian, La Liga, a Spaniard, etc.

And a different commentator for Champions League and Europa League, say Tydesley and that guy off Channel 5.

let the commentators in PES 2011 are using the names of the stadiums at the entrance of the players during the match and the names of the teams that comment was not so far a "rigid"
