This is really absurd!

Comparing this to Y2K???

Ive tried on countless times to turn the thing on and although last night there was a network error I could still play PES no problem, but this morning when I tried it again just to see if everything was okay it wouldn't let me sign in, or play any games. (Something to do with a Trophy sync)?

Seeing that I have an original PS3 I guess i'm affected by this, I notice that the date is 1/1/2000.

This is a real joke on Sony behalf!

I also noticed that the date was incorrect with mine, and It refused to let me play PES2010, Heavy Rain, Darksiders etc...
This is driving me crazy.
BTW, mine is a newly built (or refurbed) PS3 original 60gb, about 5 months old.
Internet connection still works, so this is pretty baffling

The fact that your Internet still works on it, is just messed up?

WTF is going on?

PSN Down!
Monday, March 1, 2010

It seems that since last night and still into this morning that the PlayStation Network is having major problems. It seems that when certain PS3 consoles attempt to sign-in to the Internet, the PS3 shows error messages, 8001050F it appears, and is unable to connect to the PlayStation Network.

Other Strange problems related to this is the Date & Time being stuck at Dec 31st 1999, Themes becoming corrupted, games involving the Trophy feature simply not working due to syncing errors and DLC for games not working either.

Strangely enough, it seems that only the PS3 “Fat” Consoles are experiencing the problems but the Slim Consoles aren’t. Also, as far as we know, it appears that the vast majority of users experiencing these problems are based in the USA compared to a somewhat smaller amount of users experiencing it in Europe. I have a Slim console and i can sign in fine without any problems, also a lot of my friends, all Europeans, mostly UK & Ireland, are signed in also and are playing games.

This is a very serious problem and it is understandable that many users are angry and frustrated. Even to the extent that they are bringing up the topic of a paid subscription based network resulting in a more reliable network. But lets be honest here, this is the first major problem i can remember on the PlayStation Network, except for maybe a somewhat similar problem all the way back in 2006, and considering the fact that Xbox 360’s Live service also experiences problems, then i would prefer to stick to a free service that rarely has problems than a paid one that still has problems.

The cause is still unknown but Sony are, as you would expect, aware of these problems:

We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.

So you can hopefully expect it to be solved before the day is over, most likely there will be a new Firmware Update to fix it.

We will update you as soon as we hear anything.

Thanks for reading.

Sony has just issued a stark warning against connecting any PS3 to PSN on its DevNet.

Said the firm on the developer-only resource just now: “We would also recommend not connecting any consumer units to the PSN to the network for the remainder of today.”
The note is the latest in a horror day for Sony, in which first-gen PS3s on a global level were struck with a clock bug that prevented them from connecting to PSN and put them at risk of Trophy data failure.
SCEE has just issued a consumer-facing statement on the matter, confirming the issue is related to the machine’s clock and saying it hopes to have matter resolved within 24 hours.
The DevNet line is in contrast to the statement, which merely warns, “If you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
“As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error.”

IGN said that it magically fixed itself at the turn of the day- and every March 1st after will be officially known as No PS3 Day.
Okay, I made up the second part :P

PSN/PS3s work again :) I can log in, view my trophies, and so on. Fixed itself after 0:00 .

Only let-down: The Borderlands trophies from last night are gone (I only had 3), but I don't mind.

Go and play! :D
