Re: Football Manager 2011
What are everyone's general impressions of the game so far? I ended up getting it over the weekend and find it so frustrating. Possibly being cynical but it seems like they just needlessly change the layout slightly (but enough to confuse) to disguise from the fact that there are very few major differences in the game.
I felt the same two years ago, just couldn't get into it at all but last year everything clicked and 2010 became my favourite FM in years. Given more time I'm sure I'll end up growing to at least like the game, I've never failed to play an edition to death, but right now I just can't be bothered with it.

You're doing well in the league, a few more good signings and you may be challenging. What was the deal with the Ramsey attempt? Did Arsenal accept 750k?

Yeah doing pretty well. Media prediction was 11th and I'm currently 4th and in semi-final of cup. So very pleased with progress.
Inter are so strong its insane, 17pts clear at top with 11 games remaining.....
The ramsey bid was a loan. He was in reserves, so I thought I would go for it. However he had no desire to join, Koscienly on the otherhand was wanting out, but they wanted 2.2mill + full wage fees which I couldn't/wouldn't do especially as it was a mid-season transfer.
I've got a gem i under-20 team.

Re: Football Manager 2011
LOL i looked at that newgen and thought "I know him" and then copped that SI haven't got a vast amount of newgen faces
Yea i think that the super forces will storm their leagues (Inter, Bayern etc) at least for a few seasons. I love when you give two fingers to the media and do much better than predicted.
I have read that people are able to get players much easier this year. I seen a guy's Villa team on Los Wonderkids. He was in his 2nd season and had Bent, Insua, Ochoa, Micah Richards, Balotelli, Palacios and Adil Rami. Madness.

Villa have quite a bit to spend apparantly. All of those transfers are realistic bar the two city ones, but city could have easily bought more guys and these two were pushed to reserves.

Re: Football Manager 2011
He got Balotelli for £11m
I have also seen other SS's of people get the likes of Tevez, Dzeko, Defoe, Suarez, Ramsey, Adebayor, Neuer, Llorente etc for really cheap after one year. Out of the ones i listed, nobody paid over £15m. Madness.

mmm... This is not what I like to hear. I'm sure it was corrected in patch (which I haven't installed as I ready started this game so I'm wishing it doesn't occur in my game......)

Re: Football Manager 2011
Am i missing something?
Im getting smashed in this game! I was never that good at FM'10 but this is a joke.
I won 3-0 first day of the season then lost 4-1 twice away to tottenham and everton (playing as Arsenal)
What am i doing wrong?

What tactics are you using?

I find this fm a lot harder than FM10, i think they've tried to encourage people using tactics a lot more and think of there opposition rather than stick to the same tactics.. so im guessing the people that are winning have always been tactical genius' if you like.

That's one thing i've hated in recent FM's. Really hated.
With Modena in FM10, i could be playing a Serie B team as Serie A champions and i'd still have to change my team completely to counter the opposition tactics in order to win. Rather than my team out playing them. It's absolute rubbish

I agree i hate it but thought i'd share my thoughts on why it seems so much harder.

You're right on it being the reason but it's so damn frustrating

Re: Football Manager 2011
I can't wait to play FM properly, make 10 changes and get fined
But yeah, i'd suggest looking at the opposition's tactics, listen to your assistant etc...
I always take hours doing my own training schedules, player instructions, team instructions, set piece instructions -- little things like that really do help, IMO.

Re: Football Manager 2011
I was just playing a straight 4-4-2 with Walcott and Van Persie up front, Arsh on the left, Song DM, Cesc CM, Nasri on the right.
Normal backline of Clichy - Koseinly - Vermaleen - Sagna
and
David De Gea in goals who is 3/5 star rated.
How can that team loose 4-1 to Tottenham and Everton ?

Re: Football Manager 2011
It doesn't really matter if your players are all amazing, they must work as a team. You must counter act the opponents team/tactics. Look at what line up they're playing and see how you are going to be able to play against them. Maybe with teams that have 2 great strikers, play a DMF and have him cover the back 4. Tricky fast wingers? Ask your full backs to close them down all the time and put them on their bad foot. A team has a play-maker who could thread the eye of a needle? Ask a CMF or DMF to mark him tight, close him down all the time and tackle him hard.
Also, get your team to play certain ways against certain teams. You wont win all the time by playing the exact same formation or tactics all season. You may have to play possession football one game with all your focus through the middle of the pitch so then you avoid using wingers and go for a diamond midfield who will work hard and supply your 2 strikers all the time. Or maybe you have to play a fast game. Put on speedy wingers, don't play them as flat RMF and LMF, play them as wing forwards almost. Play counter attacking and focus the play up the wings with the wingers supplying all the balls.
Main thing is to try view every game as a one off battle, set your team up to play the opponent and change it again against the next team. See how you do.
I know it's annoying when you have a super strong team, you know it's strong but some teams tear you a new one and you are pissed, happened me a lot in FM games (Still waiting to get FM2011).
