Agree completely. Piss poor re-playability. As soon as i finished it, I stopped playing. GTA:SA was played loads after I finished it, so much to do.

Niko was very poor. I've only ever liked one GTA main character, Claude 8-)

I still crank out the odd game of GTA1 (the very first game with the top-down POV). But GTA4? Nah can't be doing with it. GTA: VC and GTA: SA I still play to this day, all thanks to backwards compatibility.

I appreciated the Niko character and his story arc I suppose, but yeah he's not my favourite. I think the GTA4 supporting cast were more memorable than the lead - especially Brucie the confused 'roid monkey.

Claude? The Man With No Voice from GTA3? :D

Yeah. Claude's a legend

I sadly don't have the fat PS3 anymore :(
Would love some GTA:SA. Could buy it on PC but I can't be arsed

Ouch Bravez

I had my phat release ps3 die on me 2-3years ago - yours has done very well
I had no knowledge of YLOD when mine went so the moment was like a double WTF moment
If you want to get your game saves off it , search youtube for a thermal paste fix video - with this method you caqn get it back on its feet for a few months (pop a usb stick in and transfer your stuff across)

You also need to open up the older PS3's to get your disk back from the bluray drive

The slims are alot quieter , and also have a fail safe on recovering disks back
The only issue still is losing data so i always have a usb stick stuck in the first port and i back up the games im playing

Dam you YLOD !!!!!

I share some of the views here of GTA4 , beyond seeing the story out not alot to do in the GTA "world" mine was traded shortly after beating it ....also didnt care for the charcter much
Beyond that i did find the tech/graphics and attention to detail very rich, they can do great things with this engine - curious to see how GTA5 turns out

Slim's can still suffer with YLOD as well according to some things ive read but yeah ive been through the whole process of having to back stuff up and eject a blu ray disk for a mate of mine.

As for GTA V I hope the Vehicles in the game drive a lot better than they did in GTA IV. I absolutely HATED the way the cars drove. Horrible to Slow Down with and awful to steer around corners.

You just need to do the fan trick to get the disk out, no need to open it. Google it, cant remember the steps off hand.

I don't mind the car handling, if you are light on the break you won't skid and can control the car much better.

would like some really battered cars/average/top end/super cars on this though.

Not all machines let you do that I seem to remember? I tried that trick and it still beeped and YLOD'd and wouldnt let the disc out.

Beckham7 is spot on ....the phat 60gb ones do not allow you this small "joy"

For later versions tho i believe you simply hold "eject" when switching the system on
It not just for a fantest the purpose is also to allow you to eject media - shame they couldnt offer it the older systems through a firmware update

The biggest oversight i can see at the moment is still the fact that you can not plug your HD into a new PS3 without it autoformatting ....logic alone begs that formatting should be optional oh well !!!!!

GTA4 back on topic was lacking something the older versions had in spades (even the 2d ones) ............ fun

GTA IV had more to do in the city of NY but I think there were two things that let it down - 1) the radio stations really sucked music wise. And 2) It was the first next gen GTA game and it was coming off the back of San Andreas as well and the first thing realised is there's no flying, no extra islands or cities, no customising body shape, no tattoos, no haircuts....and it was a letdown. Done purely for business I'd say, but next gen should be adding to all that not taking away from the user.

I'm hoping GTA V will be awesome because they've already shelled out for their engine and what not, so I'm hoping they jam pack that mofo like they did with the last game set in San Andreas! I'm also hoping the radio stations have different times represented - so an 80's radio station with a lot of awesome songs from that era, a 90's rock radio station with a lot of awesome rock songs from that era etc so a lot of genres and eras are represented from different radio stations that would be cool. 8-)

Just from the short trailer we have seen already, I'm excited like and as from what I can see, it looks like Rockstar have gone back down the 'fun' route like we were all used to with the older GTA titles on the PS2. Also one thing I hated with GTA IV was the fact that you had tons of money and you couldn't do much with it but with what I've seen in the trailer for GTA V is that most things look for sale and that to me points at the fact that it looks like we can spend our money on properties/businesses etc (I'm hoping anyway). It looks like Rockstar have jumped on the whole real life 'recession' and played with that which is great news.

Yeah much of the criticism of GTA IV was the lack of replayability when the story was complete. GTA V will fix this I am sure. I just need another bit of information. Can we expect a 2012 release or is that a given?

Well judging from history when Rockstar pop another number on the end of their GTA's its usually a big difference
The fact that they havnt done the usual "san andreas" "vice city" route means they could be hiding some great surprises for us by making a fully fledged sequal follow up

Hopefully the Ps3 servers work properly this time , and the controls are tweaked to allow more and better mp fun

Aside from that ill most probably buy this but not on release - ill wait for the first price drop

I forgot all about GTA IV multiplayer, I played it once and it was a steaming pile of crap - the controls weren't very responsive it was sluggish all to hell and no fun! Real shame too because GTA multiplayer has lots of potential....cops n' robbers, cat & mouse, hitman face off....I think the controls need to be a lot more zippy and a lot less sluggish in general for GTA V but especially for it's online portion.

Your right , the modes had win written all over them - but the implementation was woeful and underserving of them
