PES 2010 General Gamescom Feedback

PES 2010 General Gamescom Feedback

Postby Adam » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:27 am

Alright guys, I feel we should have this here for now, and then after a few weeks I'll move it into the official section.

Things running animation should be here, as well as anything else you might want to add.

I'm doing this as its a consistent theme on boards and threads a like, and I'm hoping this thread keeps all concerns in one sections.

This thread will act like a petition in ways, but also a great feedback tool for Konami. All the Konami staff will be back at their respective offices Monday, so make sure you post in here if you have something to say about it before then - so the impact is huge as soon as they get back.

Fire away...

1.Graphics looks superb
2.Menus looks nice
3.Ball physics is decent
4.Animations looks awful! in particular"Running animations"
I do not understand why KONAMI can't make it for 3 years!

One the most important thing KONAMI did't add into the game!

This game could be great and the best in series if animations looks natural and realistic!Seriously i can not understand Konami.....is so close to success but those animations grrr

Re: PES 2010 Running Animations

Postby Exclusive » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:38 am

I personally think the animations (like the rest of PES), have made a lot of steps forward. But after reading the forums etc. it's clear that PES 2010 needs to implement proper running animations (this is the only animation-type that seems to be lacking major improvement). Konami should:

- Mo-cap different players (or even unknown people) when running in full sprint with the ball, so they can
- Add a more diffrent types of running animations; just 4 types is simpley too little - this is next-gen baby, not PS2 days! A minimum of 16 is required IMO.
- Take out the flaw everybody now knows as the baywatch running. It seems to be going into the right directions but i'm sure it can be improved more.

That's all i can think of. IMO Konami has done a great job progressing forward!
Keep up the good work!!

Ok, this is mine

Personally i think there is a great difference from Pes 2009, it's great, but a lot of animations are still there from Pes 2009
Running animations are just like Pes 2009
Passing is way too arcadey, we should have more manual passing, it can't be that almost every passage goes exactly where players are. In short, long and short passing are unreal. If Konami tries to reach simulation, then they MUST change this

The hard things to fix at this late stage but which are very important for the majority of players:
- obviously, running annimation (especially with the ball at full speed). The changes are barely noticable, still very, very repetitive and unnatural.
- Response times (judging by the tester's feedback)

Possible things to do (I guess) that I personally miss/dislike:
- where is the advantage rule/delayed foul?
- the ref is giving red cards randomly - seems like for any slide tackle from the back, just like in pes 2009. It's definitely not good. I think a good ref is the one who doesn't stop the game every too often for the slightest tackle.

And one small easy to do (IMO) thing from me:
- I think writing team and players in Sentence case (rather than UPPERCASE as it has been since 2008) would add to the more professional look of the game. I know it's not very important, but at least is realizable at this stage.

The rest is fine/acceptible with me, though not impressive I must admit.

Thank you.

Firstly, thanks Adam for this feedback opportunity.

Okay to begin with I'll start with the positives:

Image
-Graphics are leaps and bounds ahead of PES 2009, game looks so much better. Textures, lighting and effects are all much better. You guys at KONAMI did an amazing job here, the game now finally looks like a Next Gen PES.

Image
-The menu's look great and are inventive.

-Ball physics I thought looked awesome.

-Animation improvment in a lot of aspects, anyone who says the game still animates like 09, is fooling themselves. This game has had a major step up in the animation department and it's clear to see, from the GK animations, headers, trips, falls, pointing, shooting and transition animations.

Now on to the negatives:

-I'd actually like more running animations, as 4 is simply not enough.

-Remove the bay-watch running animation completely.

-Sometimes players didn't make contact with the ball

-The referees are a car crash, they give out far too many red cards for my liking, a major problem IMO

That's about it, really liking what I'm seeing so far, so keep up the good work guys. :D

Guys this is a feedback zone... post constructive feedback that can be useful to Konami!!!

Don't post all the whining here!! If you want Konami to make a better game; try to help them fellas ;-)

If you just want to be negative and just bugger the game, post reactions on forums like Evo-Web, NOT IN THIS FORUM... there are plenty of 'so called' fans there that would appreciate all the whining!

This is the correct thing to do Adam. Very good idea. It's better than playing down the problems.

In this movie...

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_pro_evo ... 35_en.html

... you see some strange things, like the cross from Messi , leading to the goal. That's not how you cross the ball. Even when you attampt to chip the ball that way, you cannot do that with that speed over that distance. Also the bal should have an higher arc, chipping it that way.
The goal from Henry:
You can see in the last replay that Henry does not touch the volley. His feet is a ball-length away from the ball. Meaning the collission detect is not working properly in this case.
Apart from that is the speed of passing too high at moments, causing the usual pin-ball effect. Especially in the higher paced matches seen between Liverpool and Barca on other video's you can clearly see that.
That is not about bad video-quality, because on that Italian HD-movie you see that high-speed passing as well.

Thank you for the opportunity to feedback these things and hopefully Konami can fix all of these problems in the final build.

Re: PES 2010 General Gamescom Feedback

Postby Tauren » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:48 am

The main thing I will say at this point is that the game seems to be too fast, judging from watching the vids posted since yesterday only.

For me, this is the main thing I feel should be commented on at this stage of the development.

TheBoss on PESFan has said the build he has played is slower than the gamescom build, so i would urge Konami to slow the final build down a bit (from the gamescom build to what I believe is a slightly earlier build).

If they slow the game down a bit, it will have a dramatic effect on the gameplay itself imo (again, only going by what I have read and seen - i haven't played either build myself)

Adam, would you agree with the perception that the Gamescom build is faster than the preview code we heard about at the start of this week? Have you spoken to many people who have played the preview code about this and what is the general feeling on the pace of the gamescom build?

The reason I would make this my top issue, is that I think it would have a big impact while seemingly being the most fixable of the more pressing issues. Sure I would like to see more running animations but at this stage of the development I can't see how changes could be made to such a big issue in time for PES2010. Maybe there are more animations to be added that simply haven't made the gamescom build. Back on the pace issue - if there has been an increase in pace between the 70/75 build and the gamescom build at 80 (rumoured, not sure if that is actually the case) then it would stand to reason that it should take too much effort to slow the game back down - and it is something that Konami really should do.

Without having played the builds, there is little else I can say. I get the impression from what you have been saying that PES2010 is more what you want from PES in terms of how it feels and plays, as opposed to how it looks (in terms of animations).

On gamescom in general, Konami need to get a better trailer made, and released quickly - one that really focuses on the gameplay and not on what snazzy graphics and effects they can apply to Messi and Torres - it should highlight new shooting, passing and controling animations.

I would also like Konami to give us some indication of what they expect the remaining 20% of the game to be made up of - is it simply modes being refined or will there be meaningful gameplay tweaks?

My concerns are the response times and some of the animations(add variety in running), but still we don't know what's in the pipeline as it could be addressed as we speak or already fixed, but still. I'd like to see a vid with someone playing against a top player AI, because in all the videos the AI is set to low and it just stands and watches the game from up close . :)

Yeh, I haven't even addressed it as its a non-issue, PES 2010 is super slow gameplay, the video compression has messed around with the pace.

Well It's hard to tell whats wrong with the pes2010 presentation acording to the bad quality videos.
As always I'll give my verdict on the game when i'll first play with it and feel it.
But if I need to judge the game by the videos i must say that there are few things that bother me the most:
1. running animation is still the same as it used to be on the last 4 years. the players run with unrealistic hands and legs movements
2. response times- you can see clearly something is wrong. there is a delay that must be fix.

I also want to point my disappointment with the way things done. I'm a huge pes fan since ISS days so keep in mind that everything saying here is for the game and not against it. On E3 we got a trailer that's not showed us new animations. for your defence a few days after it we found out the Messi mo-cap movement was not in the trailer so I think everyone felt a relief.
than it was the June playtest wich was the same. than it was the tactics video which also show us lack of new animations even though we are 3 months from release. what keeps me is the statments of those who actually play the game saying konami are yet to implent the all new animations.
now we are on gamescom 2 months before the release and I must say I'm concern.
I'm not a programer or animatior and I know nothing about game devolpement but I know a few things about marketing and to show a game which is not ready for the public is a huge mistake. if the game presentation on gamescom is an old code you must say it immadiatly.

looking great. likeing what im reading about the Game, ML and so on..im not going to judge about gameplay and animations, because you can`t tell with a unfinished game code.
but overall i like what konami is doing this year. Not gonna get caught up in all this negative shit about the game...
keep up good work konami

No Adam, like I pointed out in my post, the Italian HD video posted on your blog, is excellent quality and stil shows a to high pace.
Don't blame the video's; it's the build that is too fast...

Thanks Adam - have you spoken to Gari about this and would he agree with that (having been there at Gamescom to see the build they have there, and being able to directly compare it and the vids)

I know there generally can be compression issues, but we did have the sames stuff said this time last year and it turned out the final game was faster than the preview builds.

+ Graphics - lovely lighting and textures, player models. Nice visual upgrade his year.

+ Flawless 60fps, zero framedrops - I dont think enough people realise how legendary this achievement is in a generation of sub 30fps games and disgusting tearing. Kudos to Konami for optimizing their game around a flawless framerate. Same cannot be said about a certain other game. In the end, framerate > anything else.

+ trapping/control animations seem a lot nicer.

+ 360 degree movement/flow of the game.

- Running animations, its been said a million times already. They look the same as 2009 to me.

-Pace , not sure about this one, still seems arcadey and a bit too pingpongy for me on the vids, could be a compression thing.

-Response times - not liking what i'm hearing about PS3 version getting the shaft. Must be addressed.

-Dodgy messi cross

-Zombie run animation MUST GO *Hideous*

-Horrible volley animation from Henry
