Football Discussion (Part 6)

Discuss all forms of sport from football through to erm... zebra riding.

I was watching the Italian football show on one of their channels and they did a thing about the Milan players.

Gattuso said he promised himself he wouldnt cry, but failed!
What really put a lump in my throat though was Inzaghi. Comes on with 15 mins or so to go - and scores a really good winner! Then bursts into tears, really got me!

Funny comment from Del Piero to one of the journos - "I havnt discussed a transfer in 19 years, I dont really know what to do!"

From Stramaccioni's comments today we're in well advanced negotiations with some players.
In the same interview he talks about Lavezzi and Destro, take what you will from that

The main thing that needs sorting is the defence. Need some better and reliable defenders

Supposedly interested in Franck Tabanou. Literally the first I've heard of his existence, all I know is he plays for Toulouse

Were being linked with everyone under the sun as per usual, at the minute the only one that im pretty confident will happen is that we will buy Balzaretti from Palermo which I would be very happy with.

Looks like Edy Reja will no longer be our manager :(

Im actually sorry to see him go, he practically saved us from relegation 2 years ago, got us into Europe the next year, and missed the Champions League by so little this year...

He has done so much, often with no support from the back office, and even taking a lot of crap from the fans who were never really on his side, but to do what he has done, and then win both derbies for the first time in 14 years, is incredible. He also finally won the fans over this season.

Im sad to see him go, whoever takes over are going to have a tough job following him. Names rumoured are Gianfranco Zola, Stefano Pioli and Roberto Di Matteo.

found this ,thought I'd share it here
That makes it clear that the people who come up with that "Anti-football" are totally wrong.Football isn't just about attacking only ,there's also another aspect called defending. If your team isn't perfect on the attacking aspect then you can just win by defending well and deped on counters or set pieces. But there will always be guys like Cruyff hating on teams that wins by what he calls "anti-football"

I read that he said "And then if there's no Champions League win? Better not to have the trophy in this way." .....then I said..........Really ??!!!!

Anti-Football is probably the laziest, most idiotic phrase that has ever been conceived, used by self-proclaimed "connoisseur's" of football.

Bloody hate it, as you can tell

I totally disagree also with Cruyff, Im sure last time I checked football was about winning matches sure you don't get points by playing pretty tip tap stuff, dont get me wrong I love passing exciting attacking football, but at the end of the day football is a results business and if you need to play ugly football, hoof the ball, hard tackle, be "boring" if it gets my team points I am all for it.

In the end all that maters is winning.

Im not against the defending posture of teams that won the Champions league like Inter or Chelsea.
Defending is also an art.

I must confess i loved seeing Inter with Mourinho winning the champions or Chelsea now.
It's team spirit and great effort at their best.

Playing a great football is lovely of course, but if you loose nobody will remember you.

Ps: The only thing im against is dirty playing,i hate it.

Stefano, Stefano...What an idiot.

The thing I love about all this is the people who have been DYING for a new scandal in Italy and act like they know about the whole situation (this despite the fact they seem to think the scandal has only been unearthed now)

Dont judge until youve heard the full story...

I dont know all the details yet, and it wont all come up for a while, hes not the only one been arrested (and wont be the last) and its still not clear what - if anything - hes done...

They'd hardly arrest him without a shred of evidence, would they? If it was a case of looking at him as a suspect, he'd be under investigation (like Conte and Criscito) or brought in for questioning

I'm not saying he's guilty but they must have something more than a whim. I know you want his little Mauri babies but, it's not looking good

In other more hilarious news, Adem Ljajic has been sent home from Serbia's "European Tour" (are they a rock band?) for not singing the national anthem which apparently conflicts with Mihajlovic's code of conduct

Whilst youre right, im not suggesting he is innocent simply because he is my favourite player, and a Lazio player. He has said numerous times that he is innocent, and personally I believe him. So does the club, which is a big thing as Lotito is not one to stand by people he doesnt like/trust.

One update I read earlier was suggesting he is friends with someone higher up in the scandal, and was thought of as "guilty by association" and being questioned, but how much of that was fact and how much was conjecture I wasnt sure.

Conte is in the same boat, his house was raided too, if he was just "assisting with investigations" theyd have just asked, rather than kick his door in.

Mauri is in for questioning with the FIGC now I believe, or at least a few hours ago going off the latest update I read.

What amuses/annoys me, is the game in question is a 4-2 win over Genoa last season - a game I was at. They suspect foul play based mainly on the fact that Lazio played shit in the first half, and then in the second half played well and won. But, have they not watched a Lazio game last season? The other 37 league games were the same! Thats what we do!

I dont know where you read your Italian football news from, but if you do get it from football-italia.net, id suggest a pinch of salt - they tend to twist stories, or at least poorly translate them (or so it seems)
Granted the italian sites are just newspapers and therefore not gospel, but they seem to be more truthful (on the whole) than football-italia.

Oh, and the evidence thing, Police are Police the world over, I myself have been arrested without a shred of evidence, and these guys are Italian (therefore more dodgy than our british fuzz) ;)

Conte's house was raided but he was not arrested, same with Criscito. Both have been told they are under investigation. Surely, you agree that Mauri would suffer the same fate if he was just a person of interest

I'm not disputing the fact he may be innocent but when you're arrested for involvement in match fixing in an investigation that has lasted well over a year, it doesn't look good. Not one bit

Bloody gobshites involved once again, dragging Italian football through the mud. Extremely annoying

EDIT: Christian Vieri under investigation too now, reportedly

As I say, im not disagreeing with you, I dont wanna get into an argument, we both have strong views and I love my club, and I do agree it looks bad - it just annoys me how some reports would have you believe its all done and dusted and hes guilty, when nothing concrete has yet come to light, and he was hardly led off in handcuffs.

Im not sure if its the same series of games that Signori and Doni were convicted for last year, but they questioned Mauri over it then, and earlier this year too, and nothing came of it.

Like I say, doesnt look good, agreed, but I will be reserving judgement (on all, not just Mauri) until something more official is announced, and until then, in my eyes hes innocent until they prove otherwise.

Fixing matches, essentially (going from the previous investigation).
Conte's name was brought up by someone who got caught by the authorities, as far as I'm aware. He was manager of Siena at the time of the games in question

Bizarre that this whole thing came about because someone had a car crash

Do you think Conte is involved in this? And what's that story of the car accident?

@ Nobleknight91

Since your talking about talent check out this new kid my club fetched from PSV.

watch from 0.30

This kid is pure talent.
http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/clubf ... 67609.html

A lot of clubs like Chelsea,Liverpool or Barcelona were after him.But he must thought that he had better chances to play here in Portugal than in those countries so he choose us(he was in the end of his contract). He is truly amazing,im excited to see him next season.

But while we got a new wonder kid we lost two to Inter. Also great talent(not as good as Labyad, but still very good).
