Ricky Alvarez admits he is “very close to Inter, though my agent told me not to say anything until it’s official. I’m very grateful to Javier Zanetti.”

The Velez Sarsfield star is thought to have clinched a deal worth €9m plus another €3m in performance-related bonuses.

“Everyone says we’re very close to completing the move to Inter, though my agent told me not to say anything until it’s official,” declared the Argentine.

“I can only say that I am very grateful to Zanetti for what he has done for me. I think my father will come with me on my new adventure, followed by my mother and my sister.”

According to Sky Sport Italia, Alvarez will sign a five-year contract worth €1m per season when he arrives for a medical on Thursday.

Velez Sarsfield also confirmed the Nerazzurri are on the verge of completing their swoop, beating competition from Arsenal and Roma.

“There were three clubs who wanted Alvarez, but we met several times with Inter’s directors and are close to finalising the deal, even if there are some details left to file down,” said President Raffaini.

“The lad really wants to try out this new experience, but we would like to keep hold of 15 per cent of his contract.”

Rumour mill doing the rounds again this morning. Modric wants to move to Chelsea. Chelsea have enquired about Nasri. City have had a bid for Nasri accepted. Man Utd have had an £18m bid turned down for Nasri. Sneijder is Manchester bound.

I love and hate the summer transfer window in equal measures.

Man Utd's £20m offer for Nasri was lodged 2 weeks ago. According to twitter sources. I'm not saying it's legit just relaying rumours. It is from The Times football journalist James Ducker.

James Ducker is one of the most reliable Manchester journos imo so I would believe it.

The Guardian say the bid was rejected and say Arsenal won't sell for anything less than 25mil.

He's worth an extra £5m surely (onto the £20m). Considering the other options as well, he's still less money and younger too

Yeah he probably is worth the 25mil and I see United paying it. United need a player like him desperately although not sure how good he will be in a two man central midfield.

Wes Brown very near a move to Sunderland as John O' Shea and Blackpool's David Vaughan are at Sunderland for medicals.

Still don't understand selling O' Shea. One of the things which set us apart from rest of prem was our strength in depth.

True. I don't want to see O' Shea go but I would rather he played games than spend his time out of the Utd team. He is just a squad player with limited ability but he always done a job for us. Fergie obviously see's it being better to let O' Shea (30) go and to allow the younger players game time. As is it stands it is a pretty packed defence. Rafael, Fabio, Evra, Evans, Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Jones and that's without O' Shea & Brown (being sold) De Laet (loan) and Gill (reserve/first team fringe).

Part of a stadium roof has collapsed in the eastern Dutch city of Enschede, trapping an unknown number of people in the rubble.

The collapse happened during building work at the FC Twente football stadium.

"Part of the roof has collapsed. There are people under the rubble. We don't know how many," a police spokesman told Reuters news agency.

If Sneijder to Utd goes ahead I will be shocked. I just don't see it happening. Ever. A huge fee will be needed and that is just so we can open the door to negotiations. Sneijder is currently on a great deal at Inter and he will be looking for quite a rise on that if he moves to Utd. We're talking £200k + a week plus bonuses and add on's. I just don't see us paying that.

This guy said vdv would be at Arsenal last year and Steklenburg at utd this year si i'd take it with a pinch of salt. Nasri seems to be the main target.

Nasri seems to be the only proper solution for our midfield atm. Prem quality and Prem experience. Sneijder would be fantastic but the financial dent his transfer would cause is something that I wouldn't like. I like Modric but he is too small in build for my liking.

@FreddieBoswell7 says that United have bid for Sneijder. Some United fans I follow think he's reliable. I'm not so sure but I thought i'd post it.

United have lost Neville, Hargreaves, Scholes. VDS, O'Shea, Brown and will most likely sell Kusczack and Gibson. That's eight players off the wage bill. So there's some money saved there. I don't think it's as impossible as some people think. I would prefer Nasri though.

I would also prefer Nasri. We lost those players but we also signed 3 (David de Gea, Phil Jones, Ashley Young) and have 4 (Macheda, Cleverley, Diouf, Welbeck) coming back from being on loan which means the clubs they where at are no longer paying their wages so they're now added to our wage bill.

I certainly prefer Nasri. Some argue he had half a good season but that half was when he was playing in his preferred CAM/CM when cesc was out. That's where we need him, not on the left.

Like Gav quite rightly pointed out, he's proven prem, wages far lower, price far lower and younger than sneijder. For me, it's a no brainer. It also stitches up arsenal.

We can buy 2 midfielders for the price of sneijder, as much as i love him as a player it just makes no sense.

Also didn't john oshea sign a 120k a week deal a couple of years back? That will free up a decent amount on its own!

I don't know where you heard JOS is on 120k a week. But it's rubbish. No chance of that under the Glazers.
But you quite rightly said we can buy two midfielders for the price of Sneijder. Nsri and a decent holding midfielder to replace Hargreaves. Apparently United enquired about Yann M'Vila of Rennes last week.

My bad it was 80k a week. Knew it was some ridiculous salary for a squad player. Albeit a legend.
