Ashley Young has swapped the claret and blue of Aston Villa for the famous red of Manchester United.

The 25-year-old is the second confirmed new arrival at Old Trafford this summer, after Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones agreed a move on 13 June.

A club statement on Thursday afternoon read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of Ashley Young.

“The player passed a medical in Manchester this week and has agreed a five-year contract.”

Young, who began his professional career at Watford before moving to Villa Park in January 2007, made 193 appearances for the Birmingham side and scored 30 goals. He's also renowned as a chief creator: in the last five Premier League seasons, only Cesc Fabregas provided more assists for his team-mates.

In an exclusive interview with MUTV, to be aired on Thursday evening at 18:30 BST, Young admitted he will miss the Midlands club, but explained "the opportunity to come and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is one I couldn't turn down".

"It's a chance to... hopefully become part of the history by helping to win the 20th title." he said. "It's a prospect I always looked at from being a child: to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Reds defender Rio Ferdinand welcomed the deal on Twitter, hailing his England team-mate as "another top, hungry and young player".
Not a fan myself, but a good move for him and you guys 8-)

Haven't heard anything about Meireles being transfer listed. If he is, it's baffling for sure.

It's all over Portuguese sports news, having this as source: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfe ... 51593.html

Is it reliable? lol

Nah I don't find tabloids as a reliable source at all. It's just pure speculation.

Welcome to the summer transfer window. Until it is confirmed by the club and or player it is just speculation. It is annoying to read these things over and over. I hate the transfer window speculation.

I know that, it's exactly the same over here. But sometimes the things they're able to speculate about stun me.

Good news on the inter front

Inter are getting closer to announcing the name of their new Coach. “Something will happen by the weekend,” said President Massimo Moratti.

Questioned outside of his Saras offices in Milan on Thursday, Moratti was asked for an update after Sinisa Mihajlovic ruled himself out of the running.

“I repeat that you will know everything by the end of the week,” the oil baron noted.

“Mihajlovic? This is already the third time I’ve heard that he’ll stay at Fiorentina, so…”

Gian Piero Gasperini is the new favourite to be handed the job, but Moratti was giving little away.

“The candidates are the same ones as yesterday,” the San Siro chief noted.

“I’m heading out of the country? Don’t worry, there is always someone around who can give you the news.”

My money is on Gasperini. Super coach tbh. I think he'll do well

And also we've not taken up the option to sign Kharja permanently. I'm absolutely DELIGHTED

La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy today confirmed that United are targeting, and close to signing four or five players from Fiorentina’s U16 team. All of them have turned 16 this past season so would feed straight into the clubs Academy as first year scholars.
Two are goalkeepers – Luca Lezzerini who has been capped at U17 level and Pierluigi Gollini who has been capped at U16 level and has attracted interest from both AC Milan and Juventus. Leonardo Capezzi is a midfielder and is considered to be a future star. He has only recently turned 16 and has captained the U16 national side. Capezzi has also played above his age group this year, being capped twice at U17 level. The fourth player is named by his surname – Madrigali; however it is unclear if that refers to either Xavier or Saverio Madrigali who are twins or both of them. Seemingly, both are defenders who can play in midfield and have been capped at U16 level. At present, Fiorentina have an excellent U16 team and will be understandably fuming should all the players leave for Manchester.

I've read it's a partnership between the two clubs so United can send youngsters in the other direction as well which is good news.

While the transfer rumor is in full swing in Europe, USA vs Mexico Final was taking place. And what a game it was!!!

2 goals down, Mexico fight back to win it 4-2. 2 goals by Barrera and a goal each from Guardado and Santos. The first by Barrera was beautiful, while his second was equally exquisite. Guardado was a front of the goal scramble. Santos, Mexico 4th goal, was a piece of brilliance from the youngster. Youtube worthy to say the least. Congrats to Mexico. Fully deserved i think. Played nicest football from what i saw.

They have a hell of a bright future i think. Their chemistry and desire to fight back is wonderful to see. Hopefully during the next World Cup, they would have matured some more and could show their skill. Their odds of doing good in the World Cup is slightly getting better and better by the week.

Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona. I saw bits of him last season and watched him in the Under 21 European Championships and he looks quality. Very good on the ball. Similar to Iniesta in terms of his style of play.

If I were Barca i'd keep him, forget Fabregas and spend whatever it takes to get Sanchez or Rossi.

Not sure. Probably his PA? It isn't an impressive derrière that's for sure.

Looks like the Nasri to Utd rumours are starting back up. On another note new thread needed.
