Not in any particular order (as I may lose my mind trying to put these into order):

1. The Godfather
2. The Truman Show
3. Terminator 2
4. Goodfellas
5. On The Waterfront
6. American Psycho
7. Rocky
8. Raging Bull
9. Groundhog Day
10. L.A. Confidential

Honourable mentions to The Lion King, Mission Impossible (isn't it funny how a few people have listed this?), Batman Returns, Unforgiven, Schindler's List, The Godfather Part II, and Memento.

It is. I was 14 when I first saw it, and I was entranced by every second of the film from start to finish. People knock it because its perceived to be a trashy blockbuster starring Tom Cruise but the way the plot is uncovered is just fantastic.

Excellent thread:

10) Stay
9) L'Appartement
8) Hell In The Pacific
7) Network
6) Into The Wild
5) The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 version)
4) Taxi Driver
3) Gladiator
2) The Last of the Mohicans
1) The Thin Red Line
1) Heat

I couldn't pick a favourite between Heat and The Thin Red Line. Honorable mentions to Catch Me If You Can, Talk Radio, L.A Confidential, The Count Of Monte Cristo and La vita è bella.

Indeed, surprised to see it another list to be honest. Better than 'A Prophet' for me, good as that was.

Ever seen the original? I'd never even heard of it before.

Off your list I thought about 25th Hour, definitely one of the more underrated films of the last decade.

Definitely. You could probably only count the amount of actors capable of giving that same intensity to the monolgue Ed Norton performs, where he looks into the mirror, on one hand. The first time I saw 25th Hour I was quite young and I didn't notice the real ending. That made my second viewing of it even better.

Nope. I just happened open The Beat That My Heart Skipped one night while watching TV. That's how i see most of the foreign films that i love. RTÉ generally show 1 or 2 a week

Crimson Rivers was the same, i saw Jean Reno and thought, this could be good :D

I must've seen The Lion King countless times when my father was alive. When the 'old' fella decided to hit the road ( :D ), I've not risked watching it since. Its been 15 years since I've seen it and I reckon I'll be blubbing like a girl if I ever watch it again. I'm not taking the risk....

It's just fantastic, and probably the last great cartoon-animated film from Disney, and in my eyes, it's their best. It has everything.

I'll probably have to put in my top 10 favourite comedy films, because greats like burn after reading, zoolander etc are brilliant and I love them but you just can't compare these type of films with the ones listed above.
