The Graphics Thread
Re: The Graphics Thread
5H is too hard of a pencil to sketch with, I prefer a (1)B or HB pencil. I recently started drawing too. Got afew Daler-Rowney sketch books, pencils, BiC Fine pens and this 'Manga Pen' that ended up costing me €19 (Its basically a fine black paint brush), but I've done **** all drawings cos i'm lacking inspiration and motivation.
I used to do animation, but realised after that graphic design would've been more to my liking.

Looks like we all got drawn into the world of Neil Buchannon recently. I was looking at the pens today but didn't want to spend too much, so opted just for the pencils. I don't have much inspiration at the minute, but I'm just going to start from scratch with objects and that sort of stuff. The fundamentals.

You guys inspired me to pick up the pencils
My first sketch in years -- so it isn't great!
I royally f'd up his legs, but i'll have another go in a bit
I also screwed up my signature, forgetting to add a 'B'

Haven't got my scanner connected at the moment, so had to take a pic of my Clint Eastwood sketch with my phone....a bit rough (nose is a bit mashed) but its ok. Drawing never use to be this difficult...

Good effort. It seems like you've got your own style if you understand what I mean, is this intentional? or am I way off?.....

Yeah you are spot-on. Good eye! I began developing it when I was at school but could'nt carry on. Its weird - I picked up the pencils and its like my fingers remembered how it use to be. However the actual skills themselves are rusty as hell. Its actually quite painful to draw (mentally) whereas I use to love it before.

Too right, it can be very draining. When I draw, I expect too much from me. I think I'm going to be a wizard with the pencil just because as a kid I was pretty good at it but in reality, that was 8-10 years ago. I need to understand that it's going to tricky and very much challenging at the start but with practice I'm sure I'll get into the flow. Good times!

Re: The Graphics Thread
Exactly! I go into a drawing thinking "There's no use doing it if it isn't going to be the best". Then when things don't turn out right I get frustrated - this never use to happen when I was a kid, because pretty much everything I tried turned out good. But now its a struggle. That's why I'm going to teach myself "classically" if you know what I mean, i.e. the proper procedures, skills, etc. I have no doubt that if I see this through, my drawing style will most likely change in accordance with all the new things I'll have learnt.

Another sketch done on the same page. For some strange reason, I felt like squeezing in Batman from the 'Batman Begins' poster, next to 'V'...

Re: The Graphics Thread
Thanks fella. This is where my sketches stop looking half-way decent. I tried drawing a can of Mr. Sheen cleaning aerosol and it looks like an utter disgrace.

haha. Keep them coming, I'm taking a break for tonight. My current Ray drawing isn't going as well as I hoped, but it's all practice.

Re: The Graphics Thread
The problem at the moment is a) trying to break through that barrier of mental exhaustion, and b) learning new skills. Good luck with Ray (the singer?) - can't wait to see it.

Yeah, Ray the singer. It's harder this time as it's a straight on portrait rather than side-on. The nose/eyes/mouth (i.e. the whole thing really) are the most tricky parts

Very cool. Strangely, I'm reminded of the cliff-side scene in 300 when the Persians are pushed off the edge.
Also, I need to learn how to draw trees. Cannot get them looking decent at all.

Very cool Aron, I'm guessing you made that 'image' off the top of your head. If so, kudos to you. Great job.
