Even with the duff third part, such is the quality of the first 2 movies the Godfather trilogy is simply sublime. Although I'm not of the school of thought that totally lambasts GFIII - it has its moments.

I really can't say "... is the best trilogy" but some of the candidates are excellent. Lord of the Rings satisfies the elf/dwarf/many other mythical creatures craving, Bourne is an entertaining spy/action piece with an interesting human story fueling it and the Godfather is as popular as it is for good reasons.
